Inconsistent level squish with DK's and DH's

Noticed some inconsistent level squishing with fresh DK’s and DH’s after the pre-patch today.

DK Before Pre-Patch:

  • Had a fresh lvl 55 worgen DK sitting in the old Eastern Plaguelands starting area for DK’s.
  • Had another fresh lvl 55 nightborne DK also in the same area.
  • Had yet another fresh lvl 55 nelf DK also in the same area.

DK After Pre-Patch:

  • The nightborne DK is now level 10 and in the new DK starting area.
  • The worgen is lvl 23 and still in the old DK starting area. He also has no spec selected, which is amusing.
  • The nelf is lvl 24. I haven’t logged in to see where he is, but I imagine it’s EPL.
  • Interestingly, in both starting areas I observed several players who had made fresh DK’s and logged in to find they were level 8.

DH Before Pre-Patch:

  • Had a fresh lvl 98 belf DH hanging out in the DH starting area.
  • Had a fresh lvl 98 nelf DH, also in the DH starting area.

DH After Pre-Patch:

  • Both the belf and the nelf are now level 8, still in the DH starting area.

Clearly some of these characters were squished well below what they should have been. I’m also confused why there is inconsistency with the DK squishes, despite all of them being the same level prior to the patch.

As a guess, this may have to do with DKs and DH starting at level 1 (I believe) with the new leveling stuff. Your nightborne is an allied race, which started at a higher level, so lost more levels to compensate. No idea if any of this behavior is intended or bugs or what.

You’re probably on to something with the whole allied race thing. However, that doesn’t explain why a lvl 55 worgen DK is now lvl 23, but a lvl 55 nelf DK is now lvl 24. Or why some other DK’s are now lvl 8 vs others at lvl 10, when they were all lvl 55 before the patch.

I’m not upset or anything. I just consider this to be a bug and not “working as intended.” Creating new characters is one thing. But level squishing existing characters should be consistent across the board. It would be like logging in today and finding 1 of your former 120’s at level 50, but another is level 48.

The poster never stated if they had the exact same amount of accumulated XP, just that they were at the same level. You can have two level 55’s of which 1 is 5% from 56, and the other 0% into 55. That would play an effect.

as Deces as mentioned, i wonder if blizzard did a scale of exp instead of actual levels.

That would explain being 1-2 levels apart. Doesn’t explain why a lvl 98 DH is now level 8, when it should be 39.

I haven’t logged in to the game yet today to see if anything has changed.

That said, it should take roughly the same amount of time to get my DH from 8-50 as it would have taken to get from 98-120.
