I agree. Just stating my frustration in them essentially posting “We aren’t going F2P! We promise! Sign up for this new 6 month sub! By the way, since you are here, you can now play for free, because we care.”
But yeah, I agree. WoW most likely won’t do that until they are ready to shut the servers down. I’m okay with paying a sub, though I’m really frustrated with the game, I prefer subs to f2p games.
I’m in favor of whatever doesn’t lead to garbage content / systems… so long as I can keep using my debit or some other prepaid card for it, the payment model is the least of my worries, unless it ends up costing me too much… then I just use in-game currency for time tokens if that’s an option… otherwise I move on, especially if I’m not having fun playing said game anymore, and / or real life happens to get in the way…
There’s literally 0 reason for them to do this with WoW. Too risky, and they already sell microtransactions at a way higher rate than their competitors (compare the mount prices from XIV to WoW) on top of selling $15 subs on top of $40 expansions.)
What would they gain from a F2P model compared to what they have now?
The company has a knack for doing dumb things. For example. Do you own a phone and we are not taking flying out of game. So this is highly possible for these guys,
You have no idea that an addiction lawsuit could be filed so easily?
Or the fact that Blizzard Entertainment is praying on their customers, knowing full-well they’re loyal, milking them out of cash while producing mediocre products when they knowingly can do better? That’s in ‘scam’ territory there-- It’s a stretch, but it’s possible.
There’s also about five other lawsuits I could think off the top of my head, but explaining them would require much greater detail than I care to type on to the forums (even moreso considering it’d never get read.) The fact is though: Blizzard could easily be sued right now, or later, for their product and practices.
You have no idea what you’re talking about, but good luck! Let us know how it goes!
Anybody can be sued for anything, at any time. But I promise you’d be wasting your time and money trying to sue a billion dollar company, especially when your only example is “providing mediocre products” which is entirely subjective. You don’t like it, don’t buy it.
What would a “season pass” mean, and how much would it cost?
I will bet YOU that Blizzard makes a ton of money from people who still have active subscriptions, but haven’t played the game in a while. People who have either forgotten they’re subscribed, or are subscribed in the expectation of “I’ll get back to it someday.”
Any changes made to the price of a subscription or payment method would require notifying all of these people, and quite possibly a huge loss in revenue as people say “No way”, even just because it’s different, and leave.
This isn’t even getting into the difference between a season pass and a six-month subscription.
Also, what happens to all those people buying game time with tokens?
If you haven’t thought about this, you can be sure the financial entrail readers at Blizzard have.
I have to completely agree with you on that piece. Some of the things they do, I really can’t fathom. I think to myself many times, what analyst make these choices or do the executives just not listen to their analysts.
I don’t think the game would go free to play with premium cosmetic cash shop.
But if it does, well… I guess I get to play WoW for free because either way I’m not buying $25 mounts and skins from a 16 year old game with cartoon art. Fine with me.
It’s not like they’re suddenly going to start putting the best-looking mounts in the shop because they’re already doing this even with a sub.
For some people its just time efficiency. Like I could work for 10 minutes and buy a token or I could spend hours of my free time in a video game basically doing a second job just so I can have the gold to afford to do the things i want to in game.
The game is already psuedo f2p, they even throw enough daily gold at you to comfortably afford a sub with 1 character for any casual. Anyone who puts any effort in making gold makes triple this amount easily.
If you’re still paying cash for sub and xpac you’re doing it wrong.
The product has deteriorated vastly in quality over time, and their latest–broadcast to the world even–schemes are literally to get you to play longer. All the while, they’re putting out more content for you to buy, and producing less content for you to play. You think you can’t sue over that? You’re mistaken, lol.
They’re literally getting greedy and trying to milk their customer base for all their worth.
Some comments here seem naively optimistic. Do not forget what company is in charge of the game, it’s a company famous for it’s insidious monetization practices only behind EA. I do not expect a F2P announcement at Blizzcon, I do however expect to see the slow, but continual, introduction of more and more micro-transactions. As it stands you already by 50$, 50$ more every 2 years, 15$ a month, and there is also an in-game shop.
