First, I did a forum topic search and it appears this was not discussed since April.
For Mythic +, as soon as I changed from RoP to IF, I immediately became more competitive, if not overall topping dps consistently. I wonder if the same is for raiding. I did a warcraft log search, and found the top parsing was using IF (when I checked).
Same. I prefer IF. It’s less bursty and makes for a more sustained dmg increase especially on movement fights which is all of them.

Yeah that’s why I made this post. All the big website show RoP, but I think that recommendation is made in a vacuum. So I was looking for your guys real world thoughts.
If IF is outperforming, it could be that you’re not using Rune of Power enough on trash pulls. But it could also be that Rune of Power is coming up at times that it’s just not going to get much benefit if you use it slowly pushing it below IF.
RoP is better on paper but sims assume perfect play and 100% uptime. That is simply not possible in an M+ run. IF will outperform RoP in all situations that require constant movement, like M+ runs and virtually all boss fights that aren’t static or have specific burst windows that line up with RoP and your other cooldowns. You will be doing yourself a favor if you drop RoP entirely for now and only pick it up again once you have a better feel for the new raid boss fights and dungeons which permit optimal RoP use.
I like Incanter’s because it’s one less thing to think about. It’s much more forgiving than Rune of Power.
Rune might be higher dps, but that assumes perfect play. If you don’t play perfectly (which is often the case when you are first learning a fight), Incanter’s may be a DPS increase.
Sometimes you want the RoP for higher burst in M+ because sustained doesn’t matter if you wipe ya know? So it’s still situationally good for M+.
Yeah, situationally, of course. But it’s rare at this stage of M+ progression in the expansion. That won’t come until later when higher level keys can be pushed and where the entire run can be micromanaged to optimize cooldown usage.

You miss playing is why IF is performing better for you.
This isn’t always true and certainly isn’t the case at the moment. Currently, with the Fortified affix trash packs will last longer than 12 seconds and without it will be spaced far less than 45 seconds apart, ergo RoP isn’t optimal. And generally speaking RoP is a talent geared far more towards raids rather than M+, PvP, or open world content (emphasis on generally, of course there are outliers). Look at logs for yourself.
Rop sims higher than IF in raid sims.
If you can’t use ROP correctly then obviously it will be lower dps than IF.
In mythic + ROP is up every other trash pack. So unless you just aren’t using it, then you should just use IF.
Rop with SI is amazing for the opener in raids.
Assuming you’re talking Frost, why wouldn’t you run FM? It’s a passive like IF but from all the sims it should do better than IF for group content.
It’s only better IF you trade it with another mage.

If you look up my logs from this week I did run FM and trade with another mage.
I’m doing like 4k overall as arcane with RoP in pugs which is pretty good. I doubt it would improve if I chose IF since I’m using overpowered.
It slims slightly better, and that’s assuming perfect play.
It’s bordering on disingenuous to say RoP sims higher without clarifying just how slim of a margin
In my sims at around 191 ilvl, it’s a 19 dps increase to use rop over icanter’s for a venthry frost mage. That’s just not worth the aggravation for me.
I like IF paired with Enlightenment… I used OP briefly and went right back to Enlightenment.
Just imported Simc into raid bots, says 26 dps difference.
nothing like putting rop down and being asked to do a mechanic!
