Incanter's Flow or Rune of Power?

I was wondering about the opinions of some of the better raiding mages here using the fire spec on their opinion regarding using Incanter’s Flow vs Rune of Power.

According to some fire mage raiders who raid Heroic/Mythic BOD, Rune of Power seems to be the go to choice. but considering the fight movements and such like Jaina, Jadefire Masters etc would Incanter’s flow be a good choice? Why, or why not?

What are the benefits when it comes to raiding between the two?

Incanter’s Flow can be a viable option if you are not used to a fight or have problems with ranged spacing. In general when you become more experienced with ranged positioning Rune of Power becomes a standard higher in terms of damage output just because of the synergy when combining Rune of Power with major CD’s such as Combustion with Meteor or a rare Pyroclasm proc. Incanter’s Flow helps more in the Fireball / Pyroblast Hot Streak area, which is not necessarily the main focus of Fire mage damage.

RoP is a necessity in raiding as Fire or Arcane in the current tier, even more-so when considering the possibility of lining up Blaster Master stacked ignites on add spawns. RoP is more DPS, more burst, better AoE, allows you to “save” damage for specific adds/mechanics, and charge-based abilities and CDs in general gain tremendous value if a fight has predictable downtime(Mekka, Jaina.)

You can choose not to run it, but you’ll be gimping your burst and execute damage(3stacking BM during RoP execute,) and these two things are Fire’s only real strengths.

Great points. So stick with ROP. If you see as far as my spec I do have ROP but I switched from meteor to pyroclasm (I did this move because of the movement issue I’m continuing to have in H BOD). What are your thoughts?

Keestus no.

You beat me to it. Incanters is the go-to for frost.

ROP is generally NOT chosen by Frost.

I find rune of power just another thing to get messed up by movement situations so I always go for IF. I mostly play arcane on my mage.

Refuse rune of power so blizzard removes this cancer from mages.

Rune of Power is fine since they made it bigger - you can get the benefits by simply standing near it so you can strafe a little to avoid stuff and still be effective. It is a learning curve ,especially in Mythic Plus, but you need to get used to it if you want to play Fire properly - you simply give up too much damage by going Incanter’s Flow.

Frost - Incanter’s Flow all the way unless you want to pad on low mythic plus keys.

w8 I meant Arcane, help

Great point! Thank you

Curious if any of you have feedback for M+, I used RoP a few times, but it so hard to get the value when you have to deal with all the mechanics and affix, there is very few weeks where there is no affixes that requires a lot of movements. I understand on paper it is a lot more DPS, but i feel it’s basically even for me when that affixes are not in “standing” favor. Also i hate that it is not an instant cast.

As a frost I prefer Incanter’s Flow.

Couple of things :

  • It doesn’t add any new active abilities (I’m already losing some procs to GcD)
  • Don’t ry to Optimize it. Every time I try to optimize my casts for 5 stacks I’m losing DPS on long fights

May be on some static fights Rune can be better.

And If I remember correctlly for fights under 3 minutes Mirroir images are way to go.

IIRC, perfectly played RoP is a tiny increase over IF for frost but the difference is so small that it’s not worth the added complexity.

I’m avoiding these kinds of talents or trinkets. TBH, most of the time I play with some beer and some weed so it slows down reactions a little.

I prefer to optimize passive bonuses when I can.

Sure it lowers output a bit, but I can still manage to be in the middle of damage meters with no problems

Here’s what they need to do to fix RoP:
Make it work for everyone in the party/raid.
Simple.
