Inactive Guild Leader Replacement - Problem

First off, I'm going to post a thread that was posted on MMO Champion on 9-30-11 below:
-------------
In the event that a guild leader takes a leave of absence and remains inactive for an extended period of time, it can be difficult for some guilds to carry on as normal. To help assist with these situations, we're introducing a new system in patch 4.3 known as "inactive guild leader replacement" that will allow players of the appropriate rank to take over leadership of a guild from an inactive guild leader via the Guild tab.

The way inactive guild leader replacement works is pretty straightforward. If a guild leader’s character is inactive for 30 days, a notification will appear in the Guild News & Events feed which can only be seen by guild members who are eligible to become the new guild leader. To determine eligibility, the game will look for the highest ranked character in the guild that's logged on in the past week, and any guild member from that rank will be able to request guild leadership simply by clicking on the notification.

As with many actions in World of Warcraft, clicking on the notification will open up a confirmation window which, once accepted, will transition leadership from the inactive guild leader to the first player to request leadership. If guild leadership is changed, the old guild leader will be notified via email to his or her registered Battle.net address. While some players may need to log out and back in before their Guild tab will visually update, the change in leadership will be immediate, with all ranks and permissions remaining in-tact.

Please note that if you're an active leader of a guild, this system should not affect you or your guild. The goal of inactive guild leader replacement is simply to allow guilds which have found themselves without leadership for a long period of time to resolve the situation on their own without the need to contact our In-Game Support department.

Inactive guild leader replacement is currently live on the PTR, but keep in mind that it may be difficult to test, as a guild leader will need to be inactive for a full 30 days before the option to transition leadership will become available.

As you can see in the post above, this is supposed to be only in effect on the PTR. But I just became subject to this rule on Whisperwind on 10/8/2011, before patch 4.3 has been released. I had a guild that became inactive once Cataclysm came out, since so many of the members didn't like the changes, they all left and started playing Rift. The guild disbanded, and I started playing with some other friends on a different server. I had planned on eventually transferring the guild over to the new server, but money is tight these days.

To my surprise, I receive an email on Saturday saying I'm no longer the GM of my guild. I log in to find that I no longer have access to my guild bank, and the 100k+ gold in the bank is gone. I won't name any names as to who did this, since that isn't the issue here. I contacted Blizzard multiple times and finally spoke to a GM in GM chat about this situation. Each time they told me the same thing. "This was done to further the guild, etc etc." I explained more than once that if I had known that this could happen, I would have either logged in once a month, or kicked out any remaining guild members that hadn't left the guild yet.

Because of all this, the guild that I was GM for is now both no longer a guild, it also has had all the contents of it's bank stolen. Blizzard's only response to this was that "anything in the bank is guild property." So I'm putting this up here so anyone who is in a similar situation, with an inactive guild with few members left in it, will know to take steps to protect the guild they worked so hard building, so it doesn't just get stripped from them like mine did. Because if you're unfortunate enough like me to have this happen to you, Blizzard isn't going to help you to get it back. You're screwed.

As you can see in the post above, this is supposed to be only in effect on the PTR. But I just became subject to this rule on Whisperwind on 10/8/2011, before patch 4.3 has been released.

The system is not new. All they're doing is automating it. Currently, any member of a guild (regardless of rank) can petition a GM for leadership of the guild if their GM is offline for over 30 days. They're just taking the GM out of the equation. If anything, this system is an improvement because it factors in player rank to the equation, unlike a GM petition.

If you aren't playing the game, and you aren't attending to your guild, you no longer have a claim to it.
Might I suggest you share you're opinions on the PTR forums, 48 pages of responses and growing and believe me, you are FAR from alone in NOT having known of this little known obscure policy.

Again, I urge you to check out the lengthy thread on the PTR forums, I think all players should be made aware of this upcoming change to what was as I learned when I by chance saw this thread on the ptr forums, till seeing that thread, I never knew such a policy existed and I am far from alone.

Guild leaders, you may to may be usurped and guild members, you may find yourselves uncerimoniously "unguilded".

edited for spelling
If you've been gone for a month simply because you don't want to play, what difference does it suddenly make what happens to your guild?

If you're going to be gone for a month or more and you DO plan on returning, why not hand GM over to a trusted officer beforehand and avoid the problem?
I am really curious what type of person just leaves 100k in the guild bank if they know they aren't going to be online? I would have taken all the cash and put it on my GM character. As for what was in the guild bank, a good rule is: if you can't live without it, don't put it in there.

On a side note, this new policy will indeed mean that GMs will just gkick everyone from their guild, especially lvl 25 GMs. If it comes down to that or losing their guild, which do you think they will do?

What MOST people don't get is, not every guild is a raid guild or one that EVERYONE put effort into raising. In most guilds, the GM is the one who puts in the time/effort/cash to build it.
Hello,
I have been the only member to play WOW in my guild for the past few weeks. I would like to find out exactly what to do to take over the guild I am a member of, Wolfpack. I am not sure where to go or how to submit the information to take over. Can anyone please guide me through the steps to take over my guild. Thank you.
Hey! I have the same problem with one of the guilds I have toons in.
My toon is Bevah. She is rank (Veteran in Adventurers of Pandaria on Shadow Council. None of the Officers nor the guild master has logged on in at least one year. There is no notice in the News tab about the "guild leader is inactive..." Is it possible to replace the guild leader? If so, how?
my alt is in a guild and the gm has been off line for 9 months and i cant dethrown them i have read the forums and there is nothing to relate to my issue how would i or do i replace them there are three members me my wife and the no longer gm
This is one heck of a necro, but that aside to answer your question:

If you are not the required ranks then you will never dethrone. Note at the bottom that a GM will not help with dethrone.
