Hello,
IMO I think flying should just be unlocked in all expansions from level 10 on and from level 1 if you have a max toon on the same account.
Immediately though the problem I am running into is Adventures in Zereth Mortis requirement.
You have to kill 10 rares to get flying. But without flying, you can’t get to a rare fast enough to kill it. Especially as people are getting stronger and killing rares faster.
You basically have to get lucky and come across them.
I understand blizzards philosophy so I know they wont just remove requirements altogether. But the other ones together - finding books, questing etc. are sufficient.
Latecomers say this a lot, and it’s just not true. The advice is always the same. Find an area of map close to where several rares spawn. Use the group finder for specific ones. Be the one to spawn the rares that aren’t automatically attackable. Plenty of them have pretty short respawn times. Plenty of them take a long time to die. Plenty of them have an immune phase before activating.
And the fact is, the rest of us also went through this before anyone got flying. Sure, more people can get to it faster now. But we all had to deal with being on the other side of the map when a rare spawns and you know you’ll never reach it in time.

It may not get you the 50 rares you need for A to Zereth Mortis achievement, but there are a handful of rares that are reasonable to solo. 80-85%, guessing, are pretty reasonable with 2-3 people. One day of LFG to kill a few rares and unlock flying. A few are overtuned like the ones in the Sands.
Frankly, returning to this game after a few years off, I’m having a harder time with BFA flying unlock.
I thought I heard that they unlock flying after two expansions? So ZM wouldn’t be unlocked until the expansion AFTER Dragonflight. That’s going to be a long slog if you can’t find some way to make this work.
I can taxi you around tonight to get the rares if you’d like. You bring up a great point, but I’m sure a fellow player wouldn’t mind with the assist. Flying is too important to just deny someone who’s asking for help getting it.
Try asking in General or lmk if I can help. It’s better this way than just a free unlock….maybe

Get a map addon that shows the spawn locations and hang out in an area with ones you need nearby. That’s what I had to do to finish it since I just started this xpak 2 months ago.
Also, keep an eye on https://www.wowhead.com/. The main page has a list of notable rares in ZM that are spawning each day, as some of them don’t spawn every day.
I got AiZM one month after everyone unlocked flying. It took me two hours. Check my achievements if you don’t believe me.
Just ask for a ride in general chat, if you’re unwilling to wait in a specific area for a rare to spawn. There are usually a handful of people willing to help.
And yet millions have successfully done it.
I face this all of the time in WoW, when I have a tough puzzle to solve or any challenge I think, “millions of players figured this out, I can too.”
Camp the Northeast desert area.
You have 3 rares who share a spawn location and people list groups for them still. Those 3 are Iska, Damaris and Marzan.
3 other nearby rares are up some days, Hadeon, General Zarathura and Akkaris.
Garudeon spawns close by and does a zone wide message when activated before being attackable.
Mother Phestis seems to spawn every 15 minutes.
Otaris does an emote when spawned but before it can be engaged in combat.
Near Pilgrim’s Grace you have 3 more, Xy’rath, Feasting and Furidian. Feasting and Furidian seem to be up quite often, with Furidian requiring someone to activate it before being pulled. Xy’rath is only active some days but people list groups for them and the spawn is right by the FP in Pilgrim’s Grace, maybe 100 yds away.
The Unstable Core rare and Matriarch Ileus spawn nearby on the other side of Pilgrim’s Grace and the Core seems to be up quite frequently.
You also have a couple of deterministic spawning rares in the southern area of ZM.
Hirukon has to be fished up, people list groups or announce it in chat sometimes.
Helmix is spawned by killing annelids in the area.
Orixal shares a spawn with the elite snail that spawns in the same location, killing it has a chance to spawn the rare.
The Gluttonous Overgrowth and Otiosen are up frequently, and out of the way enough people don’t kill them often.
The Engulfer dies fast, but you have to kill 2 waves of enemies before it spawns and the event for it doesn’t start until the Matriarch bird lands.
With a bit of planning you can easily get 10 unique rares. Just the NE area can get you several without traveling far, letting you pick off a few more easy targets after that.
