Honest question here in a few groups ive recently used the in game voice chat and im wondering a few things. Why is it that it seems to have some hidden auto gain adjustment to mic sensitivity regardless of windows settings and leaving the box unchecked for “allow applications to take excluisive control of this device” in the properties??
The problem i encounter: I have an old logitech headset that was like $40, sounds decent using in game chat and battlenet launcher chat BUT i also have a condenser mic on a boom i can use just fine for everything else direct recording, obs, discord etc but when i try to use this in game or battlenet chat its like it goes berserk and has no noise reduction and white noise/background noise from hell and i dont get why. Ive changed every setting possible, i really see no reason the available options should be so poor that i should be forced into using my old garbage headset when i have a $300 microphone. Mainly speaking it seems the auto noise reduction and echo settings etc in for example discord seem to do really well at creating a good speaking voice to others. The audio input from this mic is raw into my motherboard and not filtered so im assuming here with everything ive seen that the in game chat and battlenet one is just horribly bad and takes the raw signal and has a hidden gain happening in attempt to even it out making it even worse. I dont think this is a problem for everyone because most gaming headsets these days have plenty of built in noise reduction weather it be mechanically or with a tool real time processing it from logitech, steelseries, corsair etc.
I dont wish to use a 3rd party software to process my audio and i really dont enjoy wearing headsets id much rather use my other mic and ear buds. That said am i really just stuck using my headset here or simply avoiding groups using in game voice? Its much easier much more convenient option but at this point i would much rather be in a discord due to simple quality and never having to worry about entering a group and ear blasting everyone.
