In game universal translator

So i was thinking since we now do instances with different countries some that don’t speak eithers languages i was thinking a universal translator in order. this would also open up more doors and group matching for pvp raiding dungeons and so forth.
any thoughts do you think this would help or do you have a different solution.

I would be surprised if any game ever adds a universal translator.

The best you can hope for is selectable quick statements that can be translated. For example, emoting GG could say “good game” in every players chat with their native language.

I haven’t tested it, but I would assume pings and traditional emotes already work that way.

Google Translate is horrendous in many cases. How could Blizzard do better?

well i mean they could if they put resorces into it. the add-on community(the ones who make them) could easily make one if they havent already if that is the case blizzard could reachout to that community to help with this stuff.

Where would these resources be pulled from?

Easily? Is it really that easy? If it were that easy would it not already exist?

Do we know that every word in English has an equivalent word in Spanish?

What about the plethora of homonyms we use? Do they translate well?

And what about slang terms and misspelled words? This one can especially go both ways.

I think this is a bigger task than you might initially think.

You have a lot of faith in addon creators to think they can just whip up better technology than Google lol

This could be very expensive for Blizzard to build their own but they might be able to tie into Google Translate or Babelfish for a fee. There could also be detrimental latency because everything will need to be sent to the translation service and back.

However, it is something they could apply to all of their games.

some yacht or spacecraft hopefully…

How about an objective based translator rooted in images as sequences. More specific than emojis

We already have map pins and such that exist like what we had in Plunderstorm etc. Diablo used to have voiced set messages. Like Help!

Ugh god I’m just reminded of trying to use google translate for rammstein lyrics

Those tools aren’t as great as folks think. Especially if sentences are in a different structure compared to english.

You never know when the Klingons are going to come along and ask to play.

Speak in emotes.

Emotes are universal.
