Over the last decade, we’ve seen great success of cosmetic sales in popular games, and to an extent, in WoW as well.
A considerable amount of people purchased Recruit-a-friend rewards to get the flashy new transmog, as well as mounts from in-game store, but I can’t help but feel that the store has yet untapped potential.
To boost WoW profits and increase the game’s funding, it would be of great benefit to add new transmogs, and other stuff, especially now that character customization option in store is retreating with barber shop gender change.
In-game store runs not only on real currency, but also battlenet currency which can be attained through tokens, and tokens are something that anyone can farm through gameplay, therefore you can earn all in-game shop rewards by playing the game.
I understand this topic will have people split, but it’s worth discussing if it means more funding to the development of this fine game.

I’m fine with cosmetics in the store, what’s “other stuff”?
Mounts or pets for example, one every 2-3 months.
Ah ok, no problem with that either
i would pay good money for Tyrande’s dress

I’m all for customization being buyable from the store!
Even famous NPC outfits to be made available in this way.
As long as they steer clear from randomized rewards. Even if it’s just cosmetics, it’s still gambling. I spend tons in Maplestory gambling for one specific haircut…
Barbershop VIP Pass; reduced cost (or free) use of Barber.
Transmog VIP Pass; reduced cost (or free) use of Transmogging.

Yeah gambling is a no-go.
Clear rewards with a pricetag.

How bout NO. About the only thing that is actually needed on the store is bulk character transfers. That’s it.

How nice of you to be concerned about Blizzard’s profit margins.
Personally, I feel purchasing game rewards for RL as opposed to earning them in-game is a corrupt form of gameplay.

I know people who would pay $50 for a race/class combo not available. I wonder if other people are in the same boat.

Well that’s just like your opinion. There’s a portion of playerbase that likes farming gold, and portion that likes spending money on games. More in-game shop stuff will satisfy both groups, as well as give others more incentive to farm.
This isn’t some exclusive merchandise you can’t get through gameplay.

I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to outfits and such being made available on the store, but only as long as the cosmetics that everyone can get doesn’t suffer as a result.
Yea. No. We could use more cool stuff.
Now I wan’t to see a male dwarf in Tyrande’s dress…
Yeah we’re going with assumption for every good cosmetic in store they’d make some good ones obtainable in-game.
Looking at season 1 of shadowlands, pretty good cosmetics obtainable through gameplay, would be fair to make and add 1 or 2 in store.
Go back to bed Activision.

The problem with them selling mog sets is that they’ll stop putting effort into current sets, haven’t you noticed the quality difference between in-game mount rewards for achievements and such compared to store mounts?

No I haven’t, there’s been tons of great mounts in-game in BFA. Looking at Shadowlands, we’re getting… what, 70 mounts off the bat?
Think about it like this, Caravan Brutosaur is 500$ bnet currency in gold, for that much you can get everything from store, just by converting gold into store currency.
I dunno… the quality of the ingame mounts are at the same level to me.
The store ones are all niches that fit only tiny themes, like the chinese zodiac ones. The boat… eh.
- The fox is going to come to SL as a ground mount.
They should reduce character service prices (realm transfers, race change). At the moment if I wanted to buy it with tokens it would cost me 3 tokens for 1 service which is a lot o_o
