In Game Player search function STILL broken. Why?

Why is the in game player search function still broken?

Just had an incident where I needed to log into an alliance alt to try to tell someone I was going to help him get some item thats surrounded by mobs that can kill people easily and so I logged to my alliance and I can’t search for him. His character name had a special character in it so I couldn’t just type a normal tell. I couldn’t even type the first 5 letters before the special character - search doesn’t give me any results.

Please fix this. I’ve heard it’s been broken since Shadowlands.

It is silly to use add-ons to rectify something that has not worked for a while.

On RP servers, we use Total RP3 (TRP3), where we can ‘scan’ the entire zone for RPers (others with the addon; IE basically everyone), paired with their names. This has been my workaround for the broken search function, and many others take advantage of this function for the same reason.

It’s ridiculous to ask servers of non-RPers to download an addon to do what an existing function /who ought to be doing properly.

Was this removal intentional? I felt it was, whether due to griefing or otherwise. Definitely felt the burn of /who in Classic when the opposite faction would log onto another account to find out /who was in the region and camp them.

It is silly to leave something basic so very broken, especially a function that any MMORPG player is familiar with. Furthermore, it is bad morale for it not to populate with everyones’ names for that zone, such as showing the zone empty when it isn’t.

It would be nice to have an official response on the matter and put it to rest.
