What would players think if blizzard introduced a second board similar to the Adventure Guide boards near major locations also posted in the Inn’s. This way players don’t have to congregate in the cities to know what’s happening or what opportunities are available.
A Forum Board. One that listed 3-areas for players to see without needing to chase discords. Or be in a city to listen to trade.
Imagine a rectangle (Landscape Mode), left half would be the topics section. Right half would be split horizontally. Upper half would be guild recruiting where a guild could post a recruiting line (a time limit (1-2 hours between) would be imposed to prevent excessive spamming). Lower half would be event posts. (again a 1-hour time limit to post giving others a chance.)
Main Forum board would be the topics presented in each servers own Forum. To prevent spam/verbal abuse/misuse/foul language, any posts on here would show up with some form of time-delay later on on the in-game forum board.
I’m sure there are addons for this sort of thing but this is a comfortable way of sharing thoughts/ideas/or info without additional game tinkering, provided by the game itself. Discord has many voices and many channels. This filters out the noise so players can see what is direct and important. Players can apply keyword filters to this post to see only what they are interested in.
You could link events you are interested in to your in-game calendar and get notices when you log in. It could include a tracker to where the event is being held and a timer (turn on/off in options).
The Upper Right Half would be posts from active guilds. This helps so players can find guilds that have a continuous operating parameter and not request to join while waiting for an extended period of time for a reply.
The Guild finder does show guilds that are recruiting but they may as well be inactive groups that no-one logs into for a month or more, left in a recruiting state. If they aren’t taken off the guild finder, they just clog up the finder with non operating guilds. I’m sure this would be a more sound and respected way of recruiting without guild invites popping up in endless whispers or more.
Even banned accounts GM’s will still have active guilds listed indefinitely, unless the name is up for grabs (after 2 addons according to blizzard CoC). If you are in a guild and you don’t ever see your GM online, they may be banned (or no longer with an active account) and you could take over. Hint-Hint. Just got to put in a ticket.
The Lower Right Half would be for events. Any/all types. Players can post guild events with a location/time. This can be used by raid teams looking for players for runs, much like the /4 channel but for planned runs. Or for quest assistance. A filter could be in place to sort: Raid events, Guild Events, Player Assistance, Other. So you can watch if anything of interest pops up.
I know there are adds and the Group finder for this. I’ve seen posts for groups waiting for others to join dated events like the Warfront/Heroic Warfront from BFA, or asking for aid finishing Shadowmourne/Dragonwrath. This way its an upfront request, otherwise players have to spam trade/services waiting for aid. How many players turn off these channels so they can avoid the un-necessary chit chat/politics/drool that comes often from them?
What if you could get alerts whenever a guild plans an event and is looking for an audience or others to become involved?
This is a screened way to advertise without the trolls/critics/bullying. Again a time limit could be imposed so others can post without excessive spamming. Rather than have multiple discords operating at the same time, or different addons. This would be an in-game built connection that functions more simpler. And could be tracked on the wow App as well if linked.
