WoW has a lot of obvious flaws, but one of its most outstanding is HOW MANY dungeons leave you stuck at the end. While some have a short cut back to the entrance, or even a teleport, many just leave you dead in the water.
What I’ve noticed is that if you then log out …
SOMETIMES it will teleport you back to the entrance of the dungeon. BUT…
SOMETIMES it will take you back to your Hearthstone.
How do you know which it’s going to do?? It doesn’t seem time related. There is a CD before it does anything, but once that timer is up (whatever that time is, seems 20mins?) there doesn’t seem to be any logic to where it takes you.
Anyone know?

Don’t log out, just leave whatever group you’re in. If you’re not in a group you can start a group with group finder, and then leave (make sure to leave group, not delist group or it won’t work). Same effect, but it’s never taken me to hearthstone before
And this way it takes 1 min instead of 20
To answer your question tho, I’ve never been taken to my Hearthstone unless I log out in a dungeon/raid and the servers reset while I’m in there. Otherwise maybe it’s by expansion? But I’m not sure.

For this EXACT example, I’m running an alt through MC. I’m just bringing that up in case there is some dynamic in how it relates to dungeons compared to raids.

edit1: process: Make a group before entering. Go in. When done, leave group. HOWEVER, this doesn’t take you to the start of the dungeon/raid, but “the closest graveyard.”
This is still a much better solution than your Hearthstone. For MC, this puts you still inside Blackrock Mountain, at the shrine where you start all the BRD ghost quests. So only 15-20s to get back to MC.
It’s not as straightforward as just getting a teleport back to the start, but (as @Sarro said) you only have to wait 1 minute for the “leave group” feature to time-out.
For MC specifically. When I was farming thunderfury. If you are deep into MC and want to get back to the start quickly… just jump in the lava and die. You will respawn at the entrance.
