Right now contracts are a small boost to your reputation where if you do every world quest you can hope to gain an additional ~300 reputation per day, but this also means doing every world quest in the game which…is not peak gameplay.
It would be fantastic if in the future (or sooner via hotfix) they worked like old tabards and also gave reputation on boss kills/dungeons to make them more desirable.
When I was still doing most of the Daily Quests in the early days of Shadowlands, the contracts were useful as a small buff to reputation. Now, like most people, I don’t really touch the World Quests outside of ZM.
I feel that as new zones were added, and there was less reason to do the older WQs the reputation gains from the contracts should have been buffed.
Right now, I don’t bother with contracts as I only do a handful of WQs and it just doesn’t seem worth it.
I would love if they gave rep for boss kills and dungeons, even if it was only a small amount
Contracts are incessantly committed to this grind mentality. A small gain for a lot of work. Seemingly due to a worry that people who are committed to the grind could get too far ahead.
If nothing else changes, I would like contracts to give a significantly larger boost in reputation with limited charges and can only be used once a week.
My idea would be the next complete an activity, whether it be a dungeon, raid boss, or world quest, and get a bump in the contracted rep. You can do this up to X amount of times in a week, after which the contract is fulfilled. The contract expires after 7 days regardless and you can not start another contract during the 7 days.
I agree that contracts should be appealing to players.
This is a great idea and I think it would be much better than simply increasing the reputation gain from WQs or making it grindable in dungeons. I was personally going to refer to the bonus reputation from dungeons back from Mists of Pandaria as a potential use for contracts, but I like this idea more!
The problem with contracts is the grind and the skewed input/output ratio of effort and reputation respectively (it also applies to a lot of other reputation gains and other rewards in WoW). Contracts are great if you’re already doing all the world quests, but it sure sucks when you don’t want to do them.
All that being said, the mentality of having to optimise gameplay (in this case reputation gains) can be harmful, and that should be part of the discussion when considering changing the system - which is one of the reasons I like this suggestion, as it promotes a much healthier way of approaching this than simply making it grindable.
