Improved Corruption?

So I’ve been playing a Warlock alt recently, and I’m wondering what people’s thoughts on Improved Corruption in the Affliction tree is – particularly whether it’s worth it to put all 5 points in, or if 4 is fine.

4 points of Improved Corruption makes Corruption a 0.4 second cast time, while 5 points makes it instant cast.

Wouldn’t a 0.4 second cast interact with the global cooldown by giving the Warlock 0.1 second of downtime? For a total of 0.5 seconds spent to cast Corruption, just as an instant-cast Corruption would cost 0.5 seconds?

you only need 2 if you’re dong this it puts it at 1.2 sec, which is below gcd.

Oh I thought the gcd was 0.5

Probably drunk.

it’s 1.5 sec and 2/5 is recommended for raid spec.

Cool, thanks

I honestly can’t live without 5/5. I’m not standing still to cast that shizz.

For a pure tank-and-spank fight it’s fine, but that’s not what I’m always doing.

just take it off the bar. super hunters will just use serpent sting anyways

Insta cast lets you kite people and in bg’s slinging corruptions procs insta shadow bolts quite a bit with the talent. A must have for every build imo.

5/5 points on improved corruption is the only thing that every build of warlock has in common

you should always take it to be able to cast it while moving, specially while leveling. in fact, you should have corruption on instant cast by level 14

Any faster than 1.5 doesn’t actually matter unless you’re trying to move or being attacked. You have a hardlocked 1.5s CD between spells, instant or not. So an instant still has to wait out the same time that 1.5 has to wait. This means maxing corruption is not a priority. Suppression/Life Tap should be a higher priority.

It’s not a big deal either way though because by 10 points, you’ll have your 2 suppression, 2 life tap, AND 5 corruption, if you want it.

If you’re running ds/ruin just use 2/5 and max out suppression, at least affliction spells won’t miss :joy:.

The main difference is in pvp. Cast on the move vs stopping to cast. Also with spell batching it might awkwardly go into a later batch making it nearly a full second before the cast goes off. Me personally im gonna go 5/5 when i level my lock.

Many of your spells require casting time. Wherever you can eliminate that I recommend doing so. You don’t “need” beyond 2/5 to beat the GCD, but having another instant-cast in your arsenal is a good thing.

Well I don’t see much point in going for 1.2 sec instead of 1.6 seconds

But it would be useful as an instant cast in pvp or when you’re moving or when youre getting interrupted

put another point in cataclysm lol, i like 1.2 because it doesnt seem like you have to stand still that long. But 5/5 is wasting at least 3 points if u min/max pve.

Yeah definitely Max out suppression, that is beyond useful when you’re levelling

You can kill reds, skull players, almost anything that you would struggle with

If you’re on a PvP server, you go 5/5 ASAP. Nobody is going to stand there and let you cast.

not even mobs, you should always get 5/5

Yeah, but on PvE you can wait a little longer, get imp vw. They don’t start sucking at tanking for you till about level 21ish.
