Someone just sent me a crafting order for a weapon with concentrated primal infusion, rank 3 missive, and rank 3 adornment, as well as full rank 3 reagents. He requested rank 5 and I was unable to craft it. I am fully maxed 100/100 skill 22 points from gear 90 points in all the specializations for the piece and 30 in the general skill spec. I was still about 13 points short of getting there even with the illustrious insight is it impossible without relying on inspiration or am I missing something?
You probably need inspire to get the max of the max, like for example, i cant craft a 405 alchemy trinket without inspiration, despite me having every possible point for it.
That’s what I want to know is there any way to 100% make a maxed rank 5 or are we FORCED to rely on RNG even if we are the best possible. I cannot find a straight answer.
There are recipes other than Gear that exhibit similar behavior; armor spikes is one. If you are maxed you are still 12 points short of being able to craft it at max 100% of the time. This makes me think there is something missing…

At this point in time in the expansion I don’t think Blizz wants anyone to be able to create a max item right out of the gates. Hence why they have the re-craft an item and using your mettle reagent. My guess is if you manage to get a ilvl 400 item crafted that in order to get to max 418 it’s all about re-crafting. Just a guess. They did a poor job of explaining anything about professions and making knowledge points permanent is just plain stupid.
they have made it so you can never gurantee some items to R5 with the first / second infusions without using an insight
take the elemental lariat for example. you max out all your skill spec points you get i think its like a max of 351
takes 360 skill to R5 the 405 infusion 100%
takes 380 skill to R5 the 418 infusion 100%
forces you to rely on the proc or severly overcharge people for an insight to get the last 30 points for 100% guarantee. worst part is artisan mettle is BOP and a limited resource for double profession crafters
