Sure.
Bring back the downvote. When you click whatever symbol indicates downvoting, the post box opens and you type a nice post to go with it then you get the little broken heart/thumbs down/whatever icon floats your boat on the post to indicate the downvote. That would certainly be a “more accurate representation of a post’s true reception” and would spur real communication.
In that sarcasm, you’re trying to say that to downvote, one would also need to reply?
I did say that a post should accompany the downvote when implementing your suggested change.
Fair enough. Why? People love to voice their disagreement and inceasing their post-count. I doubt a downvote would reduce posting. I understand you disagree.
I’m gonna blow your mind here dude. Did you know that a downvote in and of itself is a type of communication. It says, I disagree with you. Amazing right?
It was fine except people whod get their friends/guilds/stream followers to all go downvote something that was relevant or important, and this happened alot. Youd see downvote wars etc.
People abused it and they removed it.
I do miss being able to downvote stupid people though but people ruined it and blizz took the easy way out by outright removing it.
At least you picked up on the sarcasm.
Yes I disagree that downvoting is a needed addition to the forum. It doesn’t really give a more accurate representation of a post’s reception than a “ur dum” retort. Yes of course they are both communication. By not having a downvote the dialogue continues and, as another poster put it, if you disagree you give voice to your position. The hope is for conversation to flow - punctuated by memes, gifs and emojis of course. I feel the downvote is a “push button end convo”.
If we had downvotes and you suggested a different change to the forum, wouldn’t you want to know why people disagreed or would you be satisfied to see your post with downvotes and no explanation? The fact that you are still returning to this thread and engaging with others tells me that the post is the valuable thing not the downvote without a word written.
I prefer this over what the OP has suggested.
Get rid of likes and don’t bring back dislikes.
Virtue signalling is preferred over actual critical thought. a bit like primary school sports - you are all forum winners now go play and pay blizzard their money
I’d support downvoting.
Likes/downvotes should be made by accounts, not characters. The fact that someone can use a Legion of alts to flag a post is asinine
I don’t care if we get downvotes back but something seriously needs to be done about players abusing the report mechanic. I usually have at least one post hidden per day when those posts clearly don’t break any rules, they are reported simply because a handful of players got upset about whatever was said. There are players who openly admit to abusing the report mechanic and laugh about it.
How about we trade the voting system for the ignore feature
If you are getting time outs, you aren’t innocent.
I’d have to disagree with an ignore option, then we truly would have an echo chamber. Even a few years ago I’d agree with an ignore feature again but in this day and age I’d have to disagree. I don’t know if it’s because I am getting older and just notice it more or if it’s because society is changing but players seem to get their feelings hurt and lash out a lot easier now, which we can see with something like the report abuse. There is a very good chance that the moment someone disagrees with someone then they are either a white knight, they are trolling, they are “lying”, or they are mass reported. A great number of people don’t just wear their feelings on their sleeves, they wear them on their foreheads today.
So, with an ignore mechanic we’d have only two sides of discussion here, which would kill the whole idea of this forum since no discussion could be had since both sides would silence the other side. This would turn into a real echo-chamber.
If someone doesn’t want to read an obnoxious opinion or deal with an obnoxious persona then why should they? It exists on nearly every social site and there are still discussions and flame wars.
They are implementing an ignore feature and you are actually wrong about what will happen. Most people who others put on ignore aren’t being constructive in their conversation anyway, at least in the opinions of the people who want to put them on ignore.
I had put 2 people on ignore on the old forum and I had been posting for over 7 years there.
Do you have a source for this? I checked the blue tracker and didn’t see anything.
They stated it in customer support section I believe. No I am not going to look it up either because it just isn’t that important, it appears to be a decade long project.
They don’t have to be bothered by them. I skip over many posts and threads. Many times I won’t even read a reply to me from certain people since it’s the same garbage over and over.
They also said they are going to fix the bug where players without time can post when they aren’t supposed to, here we are. And to be honest, it’s not really up to Blizzard, it’s up to Discourse. Blizzard doesn’t own this forum software.
