Imagine if original vanilla launched this way

This game would have been dead within the year and would have never evolved into the 600lb gorilla it was at one point. Not to mention unbearable toxicity and social dysfunction in these zoomer brats. My god. Never seen anything like it. By Saturday my ignore list had 45 people on it and I had to toggle off all chat channels just to enjoy the game. I think in vanilla I went all the way to cata without ever ignoring someone.

Facts.

Actually, the first year or so was worse than this. There was even a point when, during maintenance, the devs accidentally deleted everybody’s characters and had a desperate scramble to restore them.

Based on what I’ve learned about you this morning… You may need to settle down some and relax. You seem too tense and stressed.

I mean, OP isn’t really wrong. Modern gamer mentality has grossly changed (for the worse IMHO) in the 20 years since Vanilla, and games before that. They would have been ostracized like lepers in Everquest for behaving the way they do in WoW. Yet even that as been ruined by modern zoomer “gotta be the very best” people.

I’m having a great time tanking on my shaman.

I hope to see it in retail eventually because I’m a believer in the shaman tank fantasy now…

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Some of that is true and yet there almost nothing we can do about it. They implemented the social contract and gave agency to the player through the use of reports. What more do you want? We can’t go back in time and dwelling on it is only hurting you.

Anger is a poison you drink that only hurts yourself…

Can not disagree with you more with regards to SOD. Been playing pretty much non-stop since launch and I have not come across one single toxic, nasty or negative person. On the contrary, everyone has been super supportive. Sounds like you just need a break from gaming or maybe its your Realm. I am on Wild Growth (Normal) realm. Good luck to ya friend. Sounds like you may need a shoulder to lean on…

you do know OG vanilla getting to 60 took MONTHS

Cant blame blizzard for the downfall of humanity or our social trends.

Umm no. At no time ever was it even remotely close to being like this. Nope. Nada.

Thanks for letting us know you never played vanilla. Have a nice day.

I’ve seen 10+ different instances already where expletives were used in /say over people stealing tags.

It’s the same as it always was, there’s always going to be the teen-young adults spouting off inflammatory things to get a rise out of people lol. It never changes.

Not entirely accurate…anger can also hurt others.

Its amazing how just a small chunk of changes elevated them to such a functional spec.

No, I didn’t play vanilla, but I did pay close attention to it, watched people play it, and read every article about it I could get my hands on. It was just as I stated. You have revealed that you also didn’t play it.

I’d love to see a redesign of stoneclaw totem as well.

I’m not exactly sure how but it would be nice to see what they came up with.

If it could taunt a boss during its “big move” it would be busted.

Stoneclaw totem is fine. Its an early game totem for one, but its purpose is to drop it when you accidentally pull too many mobs. Let the totem hold 1 mob off you that you didnt mean to pull.

Also good for contesting a node. Want to mine that ore? Run up, drop stoneclaw, mine it, ghost wolf away.

Tell me you never played Vanilla without telling me you never played Vanilla.

There was endless threads complaining about Queues and class imbalance all over the place chief.

Edit:

The chats are pretty bad ngl.
There was a like of Bush did 9/11 jokes back in the day but people weren’t as “in your face” with IRL politics like they are these days. Like a dude on my RP server is named “Transrights”, like sure yeah, woo transrights, but follow the server naming rules.

Good luck in wherever your gaming journey takes you.

I hope you find something to enjoy.
