iMac Resolution Changes with 9.1.5

After downloading 9.1.5 I logged in on my 2020 iMac 27" and my resolution is way higher and frame rate is way lower.

I’m running MacOS 11.6.1 and m system has the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB.

Is anyone else seeing something similar with 9.1.5? I was looking through the patch notes but didn’t see anything that could have caused this.

My sad little Late 2014 iMac running 9.1.5 under 11.6.1 has the same problem. Worked fine with 9.1.0.

As an added little bonus 9.1.5 causes a system crash after a minute or so.

9.1.5 introduced new tech called AMD Fidelity Super Resolution. I thought it was supposed to be enabled by default with retina native resolutions also enabled by default. seems something is amiss and the new default resolutions are in but not the setting that makes the performance good at those resolutions.

First, go into advanced graphics settings and under resample quality dropdown change it to fidelity super resolution. Then back on regular graphics page adjust render scale lower until performance to image quality is very good. you should be able to go as low as 50% or even a little lower and still have a crisp NATIVE resolution image that’s still sharp and beautiful but with much greater performance.

As for crashes, no idea about that. hopefully all the crash issues can get together in same thread with system information.

This actually might be super relevant.

I switched my settings away from the super fidelity and it seems to have smoothed the spikes that were causing lag and crashes. So one in the same issue.

Late 2015 iMac
3.2 ghz quad core i5
8gb ram
AMD Radeon R9 M390 2gb

Hmm update. Lessened the problem ever so slightly but it seems like on certain cast animations everything is re-rendering and lagging out hard. Not crashing now… but still real bad

So I saw NOTHING about graphics changes coming with 9.1.5 and once again Blizzard made changes without thinking about Mac users. I logged in yesterday and had to log back out because of (1) the pain it caused my eyes and (2) the lag it was causing to my computer. My lat and internet speed were fine. I chalked it up initially to being too many users after a patch. I came back on today, but nope. No change. Clearly a graphics card thing. My iMac was built in 2016 and I paid extra for a few more bells and whistles SPECIFICALLY for WoW including a AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB graphics card and a 4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor. Even with that and before this patch, I was still experiencing very slow load screen times compared to other people in my party but I didn’t know why. So reading the comments in this threat – I have to wonder what’s going to happen to my game experience. I have 3 different accounts all with 6 month subs. My iMac works JUST FINE. Blizzard broke the game though - in more ways than one. So maybe it’s time to UNSUB… and it won’t be for content – it will be because they made it impossible to play on contemporary hardware.

I have the same set up as yours and man the FPS bit the dust
I’ll try what the mod said tonight to see if that helps

I have the same computer set up also but running Monterrey. Wonder if that’s an issue ? Figures I upgraded the OS the morning of the patch lol

2015 iMac running BigSur, 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon R9 M380 2 GB, 6 GB 1867 MHz DDR3. Getting reliable 60 FPS before patch, now can’t get above 40, I tried the suggestion above and then lowered other settings. Nothing has helped. It was the difference between live and die in our raids this weekend. If Blizzard did not implement this graphics change for Macs correctly, they need to supply a real fix. I do not want to unsub but if i can’t play why pay? just because we are on Macs doesn’t mean we should get sub-standard support and service for the same subscription price their pc users pay. Apparently add ons like DBM and others base their timers and warnings off a 60 FPS formula which means those warnings no longer work in a timely fashion with FPS lowered so dramatically. I am GM of Vanquishers on Dawnbringer and we have been around for 10+ years playing and raiding well. It really hurts to think I may have to give that up due to programmers at Blizzard dropping a ball. Please PRIORATIZE this so you do not force loyal subscribers out of WOW. Thank you
