Hello all! I played Survival back in Cata and loved it, when they changed it to melee I was a little bitter and haven’t touched it since until recently. When I played my other hunter I usually went BM
This char is level 25 at the time of making this and I’m loving survival a lot more than I thought I was going too. For reference my main is a frost mage and I’m someone who usually doesn’t enjoy melee. It just flows well for me. I love the mix of ranged and melee physical attacks.
I see all the negativity about it, and I just wanted to add something positive for anyone who has thought about trying it.
Editing to add: Slightly off topic, but I also don’t like gnomes. So i made this character based off of 2 things I didn’t like and what do you know, she’s becoming a favorite xD
Id love to hear stories of other people playing something they thought they’d hate, then finding out they love it.

I played SV throughout Wrath, Cata, MOP and Draenor (Lone Wolf in Draenor dungeons – remember when there was a petless option for ranged SV?), so I was a little bent out of shape, too, when it first switched. I didn’t really “get” it in Legion – and, to be fair, they changed it a lot after Legion. But I gave it another try starting late in BFA and I really liked it and have stuck with it. So here’s another cheer for melee SV.

Funnily enough I was salty as hell (still am, just not nearly as much), but Legion Survival had a certain niche of clunk that I didn’t hate once I played it in Mage Tower. Those Mongoose Bite spam moments were FUN AS HELL! That’s the survival gameplay I thoroughly enjoyed. Here and there over the last few expansions, I’ve had a few fun moments while playing around with it occasionally, but not enough to make me main survival.

msv is a very fun spec that keeps getting better every patch since bfa

It’s just that Outlaw does everything Survival does but better. When Classic Leg goes live, ain’t nobody going to unironically touch it. And if they do, it’s a free HK for me.
The short: better melee options that have GOOD TOOLS for survivability and mobility. The WW and BM Monk just ’s all over SV. Ret can also be lightning fast.
That’s why it never mattered in the alpha or the omega of it. People who would have stayed with SV and make it work decided it wasn’t worth any of it and migrated to greener MDPS pastures. They saw which way the wind blew, so people who liked the fluff of MSV got what they wanted while never, almost never at all, being taken seriously in competitive play.
There’s a reason Bicmex is the only household name. Just being a post-Leg SV main already tells me the rest about your endgame interests.
The non-competing casuals enjoyed it. The competing cores and hardcores ’ed it.
Welcome to the club. I kept quitting and resubbing on and off for the last like 5 years, trying different classes, until I started playing SV. Now I’m actually going back and doing old content and different things in the game to get the transmogs I want.

Classic Legion is your chance to prove it wrong. I am planning to be there too, in general. Anyways…
That’s the tragedy. When it comes to the “citizenship” of this MMO, metrics matter. The meta matters. Only a few Hunter “citizens” were bothered, many “non-citizens” loved the new SV. The non-Hunter citizens were all the happier to get more representation. A certain Barthilasian goblin was the #1 bothered citizen about SV.
I was/am a non-citizen that showed interest in SV early on but found it was total crap so I went for MM instead. I wasn’t one of the 8-10 year duffersitters that recently got their wish for MM. I don’t believe anyone unless by the name of a certain Swede actually played SV at RWF phases of any endgame-that-matters.
man, it really isn’t fun being you, eh?
Try to enjoy the game and not be so patronizing

“Prove me wrong in 3 years”
Is everything okay in your home life, bro?
You’re essentially asking me how I will cope with SV being untouchable after Classic Warlords while Midnight and The Last Titan will most likely provide a very good itineration–maybe the b.o.a.t.'s–and SoD itself will still be solid.
Post-Leg SV was only good for 9.2. It went back to crap again in DF and it seems to be healing now. That’s almost three full xpac cycles I have to wait until I could potentially dominate as an SV again in a very small time window.
UNLIKE Retail Leg and BFA, there’s official alternatives to get through it, so it’s silly to ask me how things are in my home. I would argue that they were a LOT better than they were in 2016-2018, because that was a dark age for the entire Hunter class. Ancient history at this point, but those who remember, know.
I’ll do my best to COPE with Classic SL Mad Bombardier being so very short. I doubt it’ll be the hardest thing to do…
I never played shadow priest until dracthyr priest is made available
its fun from flavour perspective, and new gameplay since its a spec i never play before

Surv has been so damn fun. Especially since the Merc Blow change. Insane dmg weaving melee with range.
Cant wait to try the new PL changes in 11.1

I said in my post my main is a Frost mage
But regardless yeah I play casually now. I have a 7 month old. I was simply sharing that I tried something new and found it a lot more fun that I expected, and wanted to hear stories from other people. I get you’re trying to give advice but it comes across as condescending that I don’t want/care to min-max in my limited time that I have to play
Quoting messed up last time. I’ll repeat my statement…
Awww. Congratulations!
