I don’t do much raiding or pvp. I’m talking about quick fun things to do in the world. I’ve played since Wrath and I think my level of motivation and actual content for (non raiders) have finally crossed paths at a low point.
I usually like alts but something feels painful about alts this time around. The actual leveling doesn’t feel any different than any other xpansion. I don’t feel like leveling them because I don’t know what their purpose is once i get them to 60 honestly? Something feels missing at the end game for non raiders.
There doesn’t seem to be a carrot at the end of this stick. Blizz can do better than this. It is time to take some time to understand what people that aren’t raiding or living off of pvp want from this game. Implement it and let it survive after this expansion.
Well, if you don’t raid or pvp there’s always M+.
That takes significantly less time, gears you up, and doesn’t involve pvp.
Otherwise, being max level helps you farm old world stuff more easily. (Which opens up all the collecting stuff in the game)
But at the end of the day, if you aren’t interested in doing the content on offer, then a game isn’t going to have much for you.
I’m pretty sure he means things like more and more immersive quests - normal quests, not world quests. I’ve noticed I went through the quests really quickly and I’m not the fastest; maybe also things like how to ptrain your pterrodax (I know we have blanchy and the Gorger mount but they each only take a week to do); interesting profession features (craftable mount, pet, toy); in my case (but that’s for me not necessarily what op means) I really miss Call to Arms quests - not necessarily for the rewards but because the world felt more alive due to them; I’d be happy if I could do the Ember Court more than just once a week as well… You know, just fun things, things that seem like they were made with love in a way
This has been rather hollow for casual play. It’s a shame, I’ve unsubbed.
I feel your pain. I kinda dropped out of SL. As I have noted in other threads I have decided to work on the pet battle achievements. So that keeps me popping in every so often for 20 or 30 minutes at a time. Plus I’m still running around BfA. Even at level 55 on some chars. (From 50 to 55 gathering and doing pet battles!)
A couple of guild members came back, and they are having loads of fun getting geared up. So I may get motivated to do something with them. I just need to get an Alliance char to max level to join them.
In a world of less gear I am curious what casuals who don’t raid, PvP or mythic+ would like to see as their end game loop for progress.
LFR will only ever take you so far. WQ’s maybe scaling with something like renown? Torghast rewards for the corridors? Professions that provide an inter connective layer similar to how leggos work now but far more fleshed out? Something else?
Take a break. Were kinda in a content drought at the moment, I’ve cancelled my sub and for the remaining time I have left I’m just leveling classes I’ve never played. Despite SL’s flaws I’ve enjoyed it more than I did BFA but I’m kinda running out of crap I want to do and that’s fine. I got the feel that after I finished the first raid in BFA that the expansion wasn’t for me and I walked away. Currently, I’m looking forward to SL’s future content but if you can’t find anything to do or if you’re struggling - listen to yourself. Quit playing the video game.
You do not have to play WoW ALL of the time to enjoy it. In fact, that’s probably the best way to actually play a game instead of just binging til you want to purge.
ya, Ion and the gang think mmorpg’s are made to sit in dungeons 24/7 , why i said screw it and went to classic where leveling is an adventure, even after the 100th time, I see many more times the people out in the world.
I’m in a similar situation. My absolute favorite thing to do in WoW is progression raiding, but I only have a max of 2hrs of game time a day before I have to hit the hay (I live two cities away from my office, and parking is a PITA, so I need to leave my home at 5am just to make sure I both get a parking spot and clock-in on time). That leaves raiding out of the table since that requires at least 2hrs (not counting people being late), and it also leaves pugging M+ out of the question since the DPS queue is at least an hour.
I used to find fun in leveling alts, but it’s also gotten stale at this point… My only option now is to level an alt using their least efficient spec and pull big so that things get a tiny bit interesting. Doing mount runs of old raids also keeps me busy as I listen to podcasts.
I’ll bite.
I maxed out with LFR/World Quest gear in the final few months of BfA after being absent for ~15 months or so. (iLvL ~100 after squish.) No interest in PvP anymore, Mythic+ or “real” raiding. The gear I had was fine for what I was doing.
I could travel around the world and do the stuff I wanted to do fast enough that I didn’t feel hindered. I worked enough rep to unlock flying and max engineering on one char.
Mostly when I gather or fish, and have to battle something, I don’t want to sit there “forever” (a relative term) before I get to mine/herb or cast. To repeat, the world quests finished fast enough for me at the end of BfA, in my LFR/World Quest gear.
If I can get to that point sometime in SL a few months before the end of the expansion and run the last raid a few times in LFR I’ll call it good.
After all the quests are completed, after all the rep grinds are done, there is only the joke of wpvp and daily calling/world quests to complete. I really hope that 9.1 adds not only a main storyline to play but additional quests.
There isnt enough quests that offer substance to the game and the quests i have completed only offer a fragmented small peek into each zone and currently no content has you re-visit any of them with the exception of world quest callings - most of the other ones can be done via instances.
Outside of raiding, m+ or pvp there isnt any substance to shadowlands.
This hit the nail on the head. My alts are simply profession machines at this point where as in past expansions, they atleast did LFR for gear upgrades, even now that is a complete waste of time due to the ease of hitting 200 ilvl.
Their focus this time around is on things like PVP, M+, and then raid. Torghast seems to be their biggest feature investment, but it’s fallen a little short with no real reason for the casual collector player to run it.
Now’s a good time to go get all of your Legion class mounts and artifact appearances, if you haven’t done that yet. But as far as Shadowlands content goes, it’s a pretty dry well, unless you enjoy the covenant armor sets and want recolors of those.
IDK what 9.1 brings to the table, but I haven’t seen anything coming yet that really speaks to this sort of niche playstyle that we both seem to share. So if you’re caught up with other expansions’ collectables and don’t really feel like leveling more alts via Chromie time, you’re kinda at a stalemate with this expansion.
I suggest rolling a toon on classic and chilling out with the adventurous leveling experience. That’s what’s keeping me busy at the moment.
FFXIV was a lot of fun too, but it was very different and took some time to learn. If you have that sort of patience, check them out. They’re all about cosmetics and collectibles, and that game has the absolute best profession systems.
Doesn’t exist.
The struggle is real. As you can see, you are not alone. I don’t have any suggestions, as I’m lacking motivation myself.
The only thing that I am doing to occupy my gaming time, is poke around on the forums.
I made a post where I stated one part of the problem, and its not problem in the game when i read the comments its in toxicity of WoW community.
This game has so much toxic addicted players, that blizzard is afraid to change to game because of them. This game will never be new player friendly , or for people who play this game for fun.
Haldore, Shadowlands actually has more max-level non-dungeon/raid/pvp content than any other expansion except Legion.
If you can post on your main, I’d be happy to take a look at what you haven’t done and give some pointers.
I gave up end game and I’m going back to:
-
Collect and levels pets, do all the pet achievements and dungeons.
-
I finished loremaster last expansion when it got slow so now I’m trying to clear every quest in every zone and collect all the mogs.
-
There is also mount and transmog collecting from old raids.
-
Getting all of your old reps to exalted (the legion fishing ones take forever now.)
-
Collect all of the followers from each expansion and get them to max level with the best gear. it can make you a bit of gold or continue leveling your azerite neck piece which is good for timewalking as well as a decent source of account wide rep tokens and pet charms.
Once all of thats finished I’m at a loss though as to what to do in wow. As waiting for M+ groups doesn’t appeal to me, pvp has never interested me, and the raids are at best not fun, and my time is better spent waiting for anima to be buffed instead of trying to grind it now.
I don’t wanna sound like db , but its not more or less content , its what content we got.
-
I tried Torghast , and is just long power up dungeon with same outcome, with no rewards. Its fun for someone, but it earned his name “Boreghast” for a reason
-
Mythic + is frustrated timed content. It has timer and people lose their mind when someone ruins their key, or are simply forced to rush it. Including myself
-
Raids are ok, but its hard to find a proper guild that can clear , HC now
Right, but there’s a lot more to do than dungeons/raids/pvp/torghast.
There are rares to hunt, treasures to collect, hidden reps like The Avowed, etc.
(It’s surprising to me how many people don’t even know who The Avowed are.)
yea i don’t raid or really do much M+ since BfA really hard for me to stay motivated to continue playing this game. not that i can’t do any of that just i got a lot of other factors to consider especially with raiding.
