The more I play Shadowlands, the more unfun it becomes. My whole guild is pretty much in raid log mode already and people are obviously already tired of CN. This means I have to pug to do anything outside of raid. However, I cannot seem to find people doing 14/15s and those that are want 1k+ IO which is understandable however even with all dungeons timed at 11/12 I’m mid 900s.
Anyways…I figured I would try to spend my time PvPing. I enjoy PvP this expansion and it has a great gearing system however…I have spent dozens of hours trying to pug arena the past few days. The highest I’ve gotten is 1450. Mostly because it takes forever to find a viable comp in your bracket, followed by the fact that many players like myself are flocking to PvP for gear so even these low ratings are bloated with highly geared players. And I don’t know anyone who regularly does arena since it’s not a community I’ve been apart of since Cataclysm.
In the end…I just feel like I’m constantly hitting walls with this expansion. I’m pigeonholed into a spec I don’t enjoy (fire) as well as a covenant I didn’t want to go with. Literally everything is timegated, the covenant campaign, renown, everything. That, and Blizzard is taking forever for class balance.
I know BfA got a lot of hate, but honestly I felt like I enjoyed it more than this nonsense. I don’t think modern WoW will ever be as good as it was in Legion…
I’d say abandon the meta and go for what you like. Havoc wasn’t looking great at the start (and is still below average) but going with both the class and covenant I enjoy has led me to enjoy the game as a whole. I was semi-thinking to follow meta and go kyrian VDH but overall actually playing a Havoc DH has felt good again after reached 16%+ haste and decent versa.
But I feel what you say also in terms of gearing, takes a fair bit to be sure.
Feeling out of place in Arenas because you haven’t been active in that community for years, isn’t a SL specific problem. And it’s also something you can remedy regardless of how timegated this expansion is.
Also just curious – nobody else in your guild is doing M+? That sounds strange or sounds like maybe you should find a guild that raids and actively does M+ so you don’t have to submit yourself to PUG life.
I dropped the meta years ago and play what’s fun for me. I don’t push progression as I no longer find it enjoyable. Ill do normal and heroic dungeons, maybe a M0. Maybe try LFR.
I just hate this expansion because unless you are sitting in your city waiting for a queue or waiting for a summons, you have to interact with a world layout that really sucks and hinders any kind of enjoyable play. I am down to just world stuff and they are screwing the world up and making that hard to like
I was feeling the same, then I decided to just play Tuesdays and am having fun, still log in sometimes to talk in trade but you can fully have fun and get everything ready for next reset on Tuesday (and Wednesday if you don’t have much time on Tuesday or if it is one of those Tuesdays when servers are down).
I am doing 4 mythic 8 per week, starting next week imma do 10s… that gives me a guaranteed good piece of loot on the weekly vault next reset.
Trying to have alts is a PAIN cuz there is too many thing you HAVE to do to catch up in order to get to the stuff you actually want to do… so don’t unless you wanna be sad.
Farming gear is pointless cuz the Great Vault will replace it… If you like PvP just have fun doing skirmishes, no point on doing rated unless you are trying to get to duelist+. The ilvl of mythic+ Great Vault or Raid Gear is better.
If you like doing mythic+ then just do them whenever you want with no pressure… you only need 4 each week, no need on doing 10 for 3 slots… 2 are enough to get something good.
To repeat myself, when it comes with gear you are only gonna get 1 good piece each week, so don’t bother with it… just have fun and if you don’t have fun doing anything in the game then don’t play, in a positive way.
You did say you enjoy PvP, so have FUN doing it… and don’t do it for the gear cuz the gear SUCKS!
14 days and my sub ends, spec tuning can solve a lot of people’s problems and blizz is either taking forever to do it or they just don’t care. This is a result of forcing people to play a spec they don’t enjoy they end up finding road block after road block and eventually quit the game.
Needing to now balance covenant abilities along with spec abilities just adds more potential pitfalls. They create more work for themselves, and in an area where they seldom ever “get it right” adding more potential problems for themselves is just dumb.
Pretty much sums up how I feel with the game. Tuesday is fun and then there is nothing to do until next tues. Pugging died a horrible death so I can’t push progress and loot drops are so low its pointless to try to grind gear.
I enjoy TC Torghast and am pushing layer 5 right now but as it doesn’t reward anything, so once I finish layer 8 there will be no point in doing it again.
I’ve already unsubbed due to all these problems and hope they fix them before 9.1 but my issues are so far reaching it doesn’t seem feasible. 10.0 is probably when I come back and that is only if they learn from this fiasco, if not then I am obviously not their intended audience anymore.
What makes you feel this way? If you’re not having fun with your spec or covenant, play something else. It sounds to me from your post that you’re burning yourself out by not playing what you enjoy. The game is only as fun as you make it.
