Nothing really to be done. He’s old. On his second mobo. He’s given many years of solid service, in fairly extreme conditions for a PC.
Worst part is, while I have been able to play a little since launch, yesterday was the first day I’ve really been able to PLAY. This morning she won’t start up.
I’ve just come here to post because I figure some folks here might empathize.

I feel you. I’ve had the same motherboard for my pc for a little over 9 years now. It is the remaining piece of hardware from my very first build.
I Went from 8 gigs of Hyperx memory to 16 gigs of hyperx dual channel, a 750ti gpu to a gtx 970, then to my current 1070ti. Upgraded the power supply, and switched out the very first component I purchased, an i5 3570k (which is in it’s original packaging and displayed on a shelf) to the current i7 3770 which gave my pc extra life.
I’ve made all the upgrades I could and it has chugged right along. I’ve gotten enumerable hours of entertainment from it and even now still do. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
I know eventually I will have to make that final upgrade, and put my motherboard out to pasture; I will take it out, give it one final cleaning, then box it up in it’s original packaging. I will set it on the shelf for display and remember all of those grand adventures we took together, and also lots of tea bagging.
Check the CMOS battery? Could try unplugging stuff and plugging it back in or could even be the power switch died on the case.

buut… you said second mobo? sounds like you know how to swap parts…
i built this pc. I know all it’s parts. Second mobo, second power supply, 3rd SSD system drive.
Lately when it refuses to start id pull the ram and fx card and reseat them, and it usually works for a few weeks or even a month. But nothing I have tools to do is working now.
I’m hoping its the ram, but to really diagnose I have to hand it over to a tech shop. But I can’t take it to a tech shop until I’ve resources in hand.
Bad timing all around. I was actually really enjoying the game more than I have in years… This sucks.
Oh yeah, wife wants me to replace it… With a laptop…
IIRC a Corsair 750ish. I also run it with a UPS because voltage fluctuations are an everyday experience here in Thailand.
if the system won’t power up the power supply is probably done. hopefully it didn’t take anything else down with it.

It powers up. Everything lights up for a 10 seconds or so, looks like it’s going to start, but then it just stops. A few seconds later it will try again.
does it work if you bypass the ups?
Dunno. I’d never plug into raw power here. That’s how my last PSU died
Try a voltage regulator. Cheaper and from my experience sturdier than UPS systems. I once tried a UPS unit as well but it died just after a year or so and never went back to it. I feel that unless I really know how to use and maintain a UPS that it is just a waste of money. Luckily my new PC build includes a built in voltage regulator.
Also since you cannot use it anymore. There is no harm in trying this poster’s suggestion to see if maybe the UPS is the problem. Your problem is similar to my UPS problem where it no longer supplies the correct amount of voltage to the PC. It boots up then loses power then boots up again.
Might be a powersupply issue. Powersupply is shorting out.
Appreciate the suggestions, but at this point, he’s tore down and ready to take into the shop for testing.
Voltage regulator probably not a good solution here. Power spikes down more than up. IIRC regulator can’t make up for low voltage. Voltage drops are a daily occurance and momentary power cuts are only slightly less common.
We do get upward spikes, but that is pretty rare, mostly related to lightning strikes.
We had one here out of the blue, almost right on top of us, not too long ago. Afterwards, my monitor has not been the same since some of the backlighting LEDs are no longer lighting up properly.
Wife does have a good point about the laptop tho, no room inside for the house geckos to get inside to lay eggs .
Geckos are adorable, but that sounds awful. I have Mourning Geckos as pets, but I don’t think I would want wild geckos just running around the house
1 thing I will say, the biggest desktop perk is how you can fix/replace stuff yourself. Monitor goes? Can replace, a lot more annoying with laptops

I feel you, I once had my PC die. I forget what exactly happened, but I remember I had to do a factory reset and instead of seeing the normal stuff, Ijsut got a black screen and not being able to go to chrome or edge.

They poop everywhere. House is built enough now where the inside ones are minimal, but they still sneak in.
I appreciate all the words of commiseration. Wife and I have looked things over, most importantly laptop prices, and it looks like the old boy may be getting another resurrection, but definitely not until after the new year.
Road map looks good tho. At least there will be loads of new content when I get back
