For the most part yea its blizzard fault
Itās all Blizzard.
The individual responsible for the ācutting costsā plan at Blizzard Entertainment was Amrita Ahuja, who was the CFO for Blizzard Entertainment. They are cutting costs in response to what is projected to be a very lean year as far as sales are concerned, with only one new release this year that will generate any day 1 sales and that is Warcraft 3: Reforged.
And despite the fact that there was talk to cut costs, Blizzard is hiring new developers all the time. Most notably Sebastian Stepien, who was the Creative Director/Narrative Designer for CD Project Red and their highly successful video games set in the Witcher universe, as well as Cyberpunk 2077.
Spending big + low revenue = A recipe for instant bankruptcy. So yes, they are cutting costs, as any business would need to do in those circumstances.
iām ready for a new mmo, period. from anyone (ehhh well not Certain Companies who wonāt be named because itād be like summoning the devil but you get the idea)
Do you think we can get back to a dev team that created WoW and the expansions up to MoP with the same budget or are they struggling?
Or is the talent simply not there anymore.
I canāt answer that question, because Iād need access to their books/financial records. Iād also need staff records to see whoās working at the company, and who has moved on to other studios, and if staff have moved on to other studios, the odds of getting them back to work at Blizzard is extremely low.
I guess what I meant in this post was another MMO with devs that are talented enough to create what WoW was between 2004-2014 before WoD, Iām tired of the WoW universe to be honest.
Well, then Iād recommend looking at some of the other MMOs currently available on the market, because some of them are certainly solid and have great gameplay. The top 3 alternatives to World of Warcraft in my opinion (and this is coming from someone who has played every major MMO release since 2002) are:
- Guild Wars 2
- Elder Scrolls Online
- Final Fantasy 14
Out of those three, I would recommend Guild Wars 2 as the top choice, especially for the story provided in the expansion packs and their living world episodic releases. Elder Scrolls Online comes in at a close second to that.
Final Fantasy 14 for me is also a great MMO, but it unfortunately does have a buy-in and subscription model, meaning you canāt just pick it up and play for free as you can with the other two.
I agree, Activision Bad Blizzard Good
He was down in AUS at Activision and spoke to them and they said so. /confirmed
I tried all of those games and didnāt like them, Guild Wars 2 scaling I donāt like. Elder Scrolls Online dedicated PvP areas I donāt like and FF 14 PvP is terrible.
I enjoyed WoW in the past because of the progression system, class design and the open world PvP. When arena came I enjoyed queāing to attain rating for a piece of gear that was guaranteed, I just had to git gud essentially. Using that gear felt rewarding cause it actually impacted other players, you could see how hard you hit compared to when you were a noob.
I donāt get that sense in WoW anymore, classes are dull. Warrior was my main for like 12 years but look what they did to it, no more stance dancing. No more weapon swapping, no more charge stun. Spells that I had since the beginning now locked into a talent tree or a different spec.
WoW during 2004-2014 was the most fun Iāve ever had in a MMO and the only other MMO I somewhat enjoyed was Black Desert Online but the Enhancing System in that game is god awful.
No. I donāt think they have enough influence that weād see a difference.

Unlikely as they wouldnt have that data
Thatās actually a bit of a shame, because their scaling system is one of the best thatās put out there, since rather than enemies scaling with you and getting more powerful, your level is scaled depending on what part of the zone youāre in, and if you outlevel an area, youāll still rip through the content in said area without any real difficulty with the exception of elite/champion monsters and zone bosses.
Proof that the subscription numbers suck? Go play the game. Anyone with common sense can see it.
Hah, good luck with that. You have a better chance of the original Blizz team re-forming and making a new company / game than that.
Thatās not proof.
Iām on a high pop server, if I were to āplay the gameā I would see a vibrant server community with lots of people to talk to, easy to form groups and raids etc.
If someone else is on a low pop server, theyāre not going to have the same experience I do.
No, they did have it. They said so.
What we need, in my opinion, are developers who understand what WOW is and not developers from Diablo. They are two distinctive games and the playerbase of both games, donāt necessarily play the other.
I for one, have never played Diablo. My son did and I knew from watching him I wasnāt remotely interested in it. He played WOW for a bit, but for him, Diablo was more interesting. My daughter plays Overwatch while I am not interested in that either.
The things that made WOW exciting for me, class design, quests in the open world, professions that mattered are all gone now. I believe classes are a pale imitation of themselves. Some believe that talents were bloated, I disagree; but can we all agree that the current talent setup isnāt working?
Professions are now a joke. One used to be able to craft items that were useful, that supported other aspects of the game. Now you just craft trash to be vendored or disenchanted just to skill up. Thatās not engaging gameplay.
My raiding days are far behind me, I can recognize I donāt have the reflexes required anymore due to health reasons, that knocks out mythic plus as well. So if I canāt feel useful by crafting or questing in the open world, what is there for me to do?
I have been incredibly frustrated this expansion. From the story, since Iām a 14 year Night Elf player; to how lackluster my hunter feels, to the azerite system; to my friends list being dark; to most of my guild being gone; I just donāt know if this can be turned around.
My server is medium and as dead as Iāve ever seen it. My friend list is completely empty. Guilds on my server canāt keep bodies to raid.
I have toons on several servers that are like that.
Iām sure high pop servers might seem fine, but that doesnāt really say much about the overall subscription numbers, because those are just bubbles.
The trend since WotLK has been downward for numbers, and the numbers are consistently lower after the nosedive following subscription releases. Do you think BfA, as āpopularā as it is, is somehow the exception that has turned things around?
Love the game. Love Blizzard if you want to. But donāt be naive about it.
No, they did have it. They said so.**
No they dont.
If anyone at Activision said to you that they have the data on WOW sub numbersā¦yeahā¦no they dont
