I'm on Wandering Isle. What happens if I hit "Gear Update?"

It says it will send me to my faction city but I don’t have a faction yet. There is no mailbox here and I’d like to take my time and finish the story on Wandering Isle, but I also would like bigger bags. Will it just give an error?

it might or let you pick a faction when you pick the spec page
