Despite some accusations of trolling I was not; I honest to goodness was just afraid. With all the toxicity I read about on these forums, on Reddit, and Youtube comments, I had thought that perhaps I would never be doing group content again. I was terrified of being considered toxic for messing up in a dungeon (why the person yelling at me wouldn’t in fact be the toxic one, I’ll never know).
I liked the idea of decking him out in 440 gear through Timewalkings (as opposed to the 368 gear I was getting from quests) so that he can nuke down old content quests for a while before entering TWW. With almost 100 ilvls apart it was too good not to pass up. So the following night after I made that post I finally bit the bullet and queued for the first dungeon in years, on my level locked new main.
I am happy to say that my expectations were grossly subverted. As of this post I have a total of 14 TW runs under my belt, according to the statistics page of my new main, and am actually having quite a bit of fun.
The pressure I had thought would be there was non-existent. There was maybe one bad comment made in the entirety of those 14 runs, from a tank that was going a little too hard on the trash before Loken in HoLightning where folks were dying. Despite that, I wasn’t kicked there or in any of the dungeons.
So in short, I was wrong. I don’t know what the future will hold. Maybe higher content in TWW does in fact carry the toxicity I read about constantly. I can confidently say that it isn’t as widespread everywhere as forums might indicate.
Imo, the Reddit is better, if only just slightly. It’s still a forum.
All social media gives voices to anyone, even if those opinions might be “incomplete” or biased or what-have-you.
The game is almost never as bad as people say it is- some folks even like Shadowlands despite the backlash it got. For me, SL was decidedly “below average” but a handful of folks actually liked it a lot.
And props to admitting you were wrong- that’s already more than what most humans would do lol.
Glad to hear it! Never let these forums sway your mind about something, especially if they have over 20k posts to their record. Some of us come here to read and discuss. Others just like to argue or troll. Enjoy the TW!
The only thing I hated about Shadowlands was how much it focused on the elite players. If you weren’t a hardcore three pillars person there just wasn’t much in the game for you. Everything else about SL I either liked, or didn’t mind. The art team definitely carried that expansion as the zones, music and transmogs are all top quality. Quit the game early on in SL but I do plan to go back and explore it more thoroughly at a later time.
Yup thanks. Gonna keep going, still got a couple pieces to upgrade lols. xD
