I’ve been doing delves, but I’m honestly super lost on what that even entails. I got an orb out of a rank. 6. I followed the orb to a spot. A player immediately invited me to the group. I clicked the orb, and they laughed at me and kicked me. I have no idea what I did. Every guild invite I get is silent. I’m just lost. Is this what I should be doing? I’d ask a player in the game, but nobody ever spoke, and the only player interaction I had, I got laughed it. I’m just not sure if this game is for me anymore.
Sorry if it seems like a blog post. I’m kinda at my whits’ end here.

You can do Battlegrounds, Heroic Dungeons to get more gear to Eventually get into The Looking For Raids to obtain Epic Loot and Adventure with other Champions Of Azeroth. Maybe get into a guild or other friends to run Mythic + Dungeons for better Loot. or go with Arenas 2v2 and 3v3. so many options to choose from. Main thing is to have fun. or make another character.

Please do take Bushmann up on his offer. Even having someone to talk to in the game can make a world of difference, and he may introduce you to more.
I can explain the solo player’s agenda at 80 to you - where to go, what to do - if you want. Blizzard have made it perhaps the worst solo experience of any expansion in the game except Warlords, and it’s a bit tediious, but if you’re interested in it, I’ll lay it out.
You have already found the central pillar of it though. Delves are what the devs apparently want to replace World play with, and Delves have pushed out most of what we used to do. So if you like Delves, that’s great! and if you don’t, you don’t have much of a game left.
So keep delving those Delves to get better gear, and pick up your weekly bonus at the Great Vault. The short version of the solo player’s agenda is to do world quests and activities in the world to get Crests and Valorstones and Coffer Keys that you can use to upgrade your Delve gear,
Another way to interact with players is on Discord. Discord has taken over a lot (most?) of the social grouping part of WoW.
There are Discords like
Wownoob https://discord.com/invite/wownoob
a very large Discord mostly aimed at help and casual grouping
DnDPuG https://discord.com/invite/DNDPUG
which I just picked out of the Communities forum as a typical group that do dungeons and raids together casually
and many others.
While there is a dedicated Discord client, you don’t need it; you can run Discord in your browser.
I hope your game experience gets better.

The biggest thing is take a look at the Great Vault in the back of the bank and figure out the loot matrix. That basically defines what rewards gear weekly outside of drops. From there you can pick activies, raids, dungeons, delves to do to unlock spots. Give LFR (Looking for raid), and LFD (Looking for dungeon, Heroic) a go to figure out what you like.
Sadly everything is much more competitive and less social in gaming as a whole these days, so you really need to find a good guild for social / helpful aspects. The general world is a lot more akin to a call of duty lobby these days so its critical to group up to uave a good time.

I appreciate the imput. I’m stull kinda lost, but I have a better grasp on it. Unfortunately I did my first tier 8 and it was misrable. Now I’m kinda having an identity crisis on what I actually enjoy in the game. But I appreciate the well wishes.

Don’t let one bad T8 get you down.
Different classes have different experiences in different delves.
Brann’s configuration has a lot to do with it as well. On melee, I tend to go for his Heal/Taunt options.
Different tactics for different delves as well. For example, I made the following note to myself for my mage: “Kriegval’s rest last boss : use both candles for space, let Brann tank, and kite and DPS gradually.”
There are guides and videos that list tips and tricks for each Delve. Use them!
I tend to find S1 of a new xpack can get boring after you’ve gotten through leveling and gotten through the initial raids / dungeons. Another thing to think about is when S2 hits you will have the old and new raid / dungeon content. To me the second raid release is typically the best time to do end game in an expansion. Typically they massively scale up the gear ilvls and ease of gearing too and it usually makes S1 look like a grind compared to later seasons.
I understand. Sorry for your experience.
