I know… random, but they’re kinda boring and very slow. Even with blink…slow.
I’m leveling a frost mage and I’m like…meh.
I’m sure others will have opinions, but lay it on me…why do you like playing a mage?

Agreed. Buff Mages.
Been playing one since WoW was born. I love Frost. I wish it slapped harder.
Mage needs a full rework imo. Relying on latency to do more damage is dumb.
I don’t like kiting so I don’t play one. My main is a ret paladin. I like to smash things face to face.
Clink
Clank
Whoosh
It’s the cast times. I think they’re slower than locks. Very frustrating.
I recently leveled a cutie mage to 70 but I think he is going to remain 70 ;0
Frost ended up getting too many random things I don’t want, good for people who enjoy it
Well, if you want to be faster, get the gem for it, and stack as many colored gems as possible while keeping your stats in a somewhat decent haste/mastery range as possible. You’ll need 1 of each color minimum to get the 10% bonus from the elusive gem. You’ll feel a lot better, and also enchant ALL of your gear with speed stats obviously…
Swap to arcane on top of all that. Quit crying.
I am having a lot of fun leveling my arcane mage.
As with a lot of classes, it gets better when you start getting your passives and other abilities. Have you tried levelling as Arcane?
maybe it gets better with big haste and some speed procs on gear?
idk it’s been a while. they can perform well at least. i see some performing close to unholy dk range.
the one thing i remember hating about it: it seemed trendy for pug tanks to pull mobs out of blizzards/FO lol
As others have said give arcane a try and lots of haste helps. Beyond that once they start getting further into the trees and get more passives they feel better to play.
You’re doing it wrong then.
If you want to get good at using all the Frost Mage skills, don’t do quests and dungeons, do twenty levels of battlegrounds, then go back to using it in PvE. You’ll be a whole different Mage.
I like freezing mobs to the ground and “controlling the battlefield”. The shatter crits are nice. Teleports are nice.
Frostbolt hitting like a wet noodle kind of sucks though.
Polymorph random critters into various animals is occasionally amusing.
Mages are trash. I came to that conclusion some months ago when blizz forced me to finally abandon my long time mage main when they drove the final nail in the coffin by deleting that talent that gives you a speed boost after using arcane barrage.
Not only do they have the lowest armour and hp of any class, but they now no longer have the DPS or mobility or even CC to make up for it.
People like to meme on monk as the abandoned class. But despite the fact that blizz has reworked mage talents every other week and haven’t touched monk in the last 3 centuries, monk is still doing way better than mage by far.
About the only time mage is any good is in the last 3 months of an expac when they finally get some semblance of haste to mitigate their 3 hour long cast times. So you can enjoy mage 3 months out of an expac. So there’s that I guess.
what do you mean?
was Arcane Momentum something other than the ability to blink in the direction you are moving?
(genuine question, I don’t know)
I may have used the wrong name. It was that talent that gave you a speed boost after firing arcane barrage. It was responsibile for like 50% of mage mobility. Blizz deleted it in 11.0 with no explanation.
ah, ok. sorry for my confusion then.
For me, I like magic classes. Also quite liked the teleports. It was nice to be able to get everywhere easily. I eventually switched to Evoker which is basically a draconic sorcerer, but I do sometimes miss my teleports.
they’re such an enormous QOL man…
shimmer is 2 blinks, alter time is alter time + extra blink. Mage is the most mobile class in the game.
I main a mage and have since vanilla. I’ve always enjoyed being able to AoE groups down and survive (frost spec for a few expansions now). I’ve always had great fun in PVP being a mage as well.
I don’t think they’re overly hard, especially frost but I have been playing one for 20 years. I can mindlessly grind a lot, which traditionally has been rep for factions and in vanilla it was runecloth. I had a gnome mage with exalted Darnassus rep riding an epic saber mount back then and it was adorable and totally worth all that cloth.
I don’t have to remember where portals are or what boat goes where cause I am the portal. Easiest travel in game and since reagents were eliminated I can take everyone with me for free. I also get free food with all that free travel plus I can bind my hearthstone to whatever obscure location I choose.
So easy, fun, viable for my playstyle and insane travel options + free food, checks all my boxes. ![]()
