Im kinda new to this still need some help

ive been using a add-on called pawn and im playing a hunter. are all hunters go to armor going to be leather?. pawn is telling me that cloth is better then what i have right now and im thinking that is wrong. i was told to not wear cloth just focus leather is this right? and is there a way to maybe tweak the add-on to only let me use leather?

Have you set up stat weights in pawn? If you don’t go through and mess with it a bit it will overvalue some stats that it really shouldn’t.

Example for wrath: Pawn massively over values hit rating on gear. Hit is needed but not so much that you go over cap.

Spend some time with the addons settings and it should work out the issues you are having.

Guess I should ask, what are the stats on the cloth gear Pawn is wanting you to use? Vanilla itemization is wonky til outland.

I personally wouldnt worry about using an addon to optimize my gear until max level. Just use whatever has the highest agility/stam/crit/hit whatever.

Pawn must be pretty bad if it’s recommending cloth to hunters. Leather however can beat mail for damage, and you’re generally not concerned about armor rating vs mobs.

At level 40 you learn how to wear Mail armor from your trainer.

Agility / Crit / Attack power / Hit are your damaging stats.
Stamina for more HP
Intellect for more mana.

Cloth gear focuses heavy on intellect and spellpower.

Spellpower is for casters.
Attack power is for physical damage dealers.

Pawn is only good if you know your own stat weights and correctly weigh it in the addon, otherwise, it’ll just tell you gibberish.

Level 40 you get mail. You want mail. Generally speaking, for now, just focus on agility and stamina. Eventually you’ll be concerned with hit %'s and crit %'s and breakpoints and other math, but for now, wear mail (at 40, leather works until then) and make sure it has agility.

Pawn is such a bait addon. There is no replacement to just knowing your weights.

Feelsbadman to anyone who values pawn.

It can be useful for on the fly, but players should always learn their caps and stat weights.

Though since figuring out the issues pawn has with its own considerations of stat weights most of my guild has stopped using it, I never did as I don’t see the use in it personally.

I knew I hated pawn the second I had a guildie say to me “These shoulders are a 26% upgrade for me.” from H Terrok in TBCC back in p1. I looked at his shoulders (Wastewalker, his preraid bis), looked at the item, hit need, won it, told him he was dumb and his addon is stupid, and he hated me ever since. Wastewalker was also my preraid bis, but I lacked them, and shoulderpads of assassination was outright better than my shoulders. My only other choice was mag’har revered and god knows I was not farming that. Inb4 someone says alliance quest, I was Horde with no equal quest item.

Pawn is in such a weird spot. It’s easily accessible but it lacks actual weights and requires that input. Players who know this information don’t use pawn lmao, generally I feel like sims is more used at that knowledge level, which leaves pawn to be used by those who don’t, and it really doesn’t force the person to input the weights in either. Download and go pretty much, which sets these players up for failure.

Yeah, brain off, “number say this is better” thinking. Way to easy for some to just default to that and it’s amazing when situations like the one you posted come up to just throw them for a loop.

If it didn’t require user input to work it would be a nice stepping stone to just learning what you need but hilariously you have to know the stat weights, set the addon up properly, and then it’ll spit lukewarm information at you.

Strong agree.

Please don’t use these kind of addons, they are noob traps.
