Im here to help with mage tower guardian tips

Finally beat it after 135 attempts its much much harder then the legion incarnation by miles so you will wipe alot. I did 36/36 back in legion during tomb Im going to list some important gear you need to pick up and then some pointers i learned along the way. I leveled 2-3 of every tank in legion and did the mage tower on each one i loved it and i still want that version back its fun this however is clearly overturned.

  1. Trinkets will make you invest the time now to get the 2 following.
-Unblinking gaze of sethe - from hellfire citadel this is an int trinket but it did 15% of my dps and it hits from range.
  • Ravaged seed pot from the first boss emerald nightmare. It has a 1 min cd and i used it every other add phase to quickly kill adds it did 9% of my dps.
  1. You need to buy flasks and drums but the most important item is a potion of unbridled fury. It did 8% of my dps get it only use it on phase 2 after you have taken 2 annihilates so you dont waste it they are expensive.

32% of my dps came from these 3 things it allows you to only take 4 annihilates. You have 3 lockouts to farm them if you cant get one or the other ghost iron dragonlin is worth about 7% of your damage. Buy bear tartare BUY BEAR TARTARE. It gives you a speed boost when you kill and add and will make or break you very important its not as good as in legion but its very helpful with mobility.

Talents 1-2-3-3-3-1-1
Thats right folks i did that fight as full bear no boomkin. I also did it as resto affinity. So if you want to play a guardian druid heres how i did it.

Phase 1 IS NOT A DPS RACE. I know it is but with the trinkets i have suggested it isnt. 40% of my wipes were for getting 4-5 stacks and then having to interrupt drain life. You get in you thrash mangle and out with no more then 2-3 stacks. Fight takes longer but this way incarn is back up for phase 2. Seriously once i stopped going to 4 stacks the fight became so much easier and i actually got to phase 2 more often.

The adds in phase one come to you when you frenzy regen so always bank some rage so you can hit that whenever they come out they will run right to you everytime. Since you are running resto affinity you easily heal yourself passively. 18% of my healing. The main ability you will be spamming in phase 1 while you wait for stacks to drop is moonfire put it on everything spam it on the boss. You will alternate with the adds seedpod (try and drop on the boss with the adds stay it for the extra tick it hits hard) or brambles barkskin. The adds have way too much hp and trying to watch their timer with the bosses timer was too much for me as long as you have one of these 2 up and use incap roar at around half cast you should be good every add phase. Run semi circles around the boss so you wont be hit by infernals only go in to refresh trash to 3 stacks when your stacks fall off. NEVER GO ABOVE 3 STACKS ITS NOT WORTH IT. You need to save a minimum of 2 orbs from phase 1 for phase 2. DO NOT RUSH PHASE 1 you will die its ok its learning.

Phase 2 is all about roating cds and no i dont mean defensive’s. Almost all my deaths were from adds killing vlen while the purple beams pushed me off into narnia. Thats why seed pod is huge it will destroy every other add phase. Farm it on mythic with bonus rolls get it if bliz wont bring adds into line like they were in legion you have to work with what you can get. A bunch of people make the mistake of popping everything as soon as the fight starts and then you die 30-40 seconds in because you are out of offensive cds to kill the adds.

My add rotation
Seed pod- Drums - Seed pod - Incarnation - Seed pod- POTION OF UNBRIDLED FURY
save barksin for annihilates this phase.
My defensive rotation
First annihilate (iron fur 1 stack) second annihilate (barkskin 1 stack iron fur) third annihilate (survival instincts 1 stack iron fur and heart of the wild) forth annihilate (survival instincts and bark skin) Save frenzy regen to get the adds to come to you but their agro is a little wonky this time so stay closer to vlen while running circles if adds are dead run farther out to bait puddles. I got cheap and macroed thrash with ironfur i know its bad gameplay but it lets me focus on one less thing during the fight and frees up a keybind.

Good luck and dont give up!

I don’t know why people always say this lol. You are comparing old mage tower experiences after you out geared it. Go play it during night hold when it first came out and you’ll see it’s the same.

I mean people I’m sure appreciate you trying to help now but you’re doing (and did) the same thing this time; used “gearing hacks” to out gear it once again. It’s the same thing.

The current mage tower is laughably easy compared to when it first came out though?

Netherstomp and mind rend do like 40% of the damage they used to relative to max health, and surviving 5 annihilates with the base kit is readily achievable where before surviving 4 required never wasting a CD on anything else (again, kinda hard when netherstomp 4-shot you). You basically needed kor’vas to take an annihilate for you (which had to be fixed for this go around) in order to even complete it.

When people say it was easier back then, it’s understandable since it definitely was easier after the nerfs and gearing. But like, day 1 mage tower was a nightmare compared to what we got this time.

I don’t recall this. I beat the mage tower last time around the same release time and it feels about the same, as backed by others who played it at the same time. This is the first I’m hearing that it’s currently way easier.

Did it at 900 ilvl at the time + no pawsitive outlook (15% recast thrash), and have logs to compare the abilities.

Current mage tower is faster (2 infernals vs. 3), mind rend does much less damage, netherstomp does much less damage, annihilates are easier to survive. It’s much easier.

Also, while this time around does not have to learn the fight from scratch, there’s still an enormous disparity in pull count required for a first kill (86 vs. 6), and I didn’t need food/augment rune/DPS pots/Drums this go around whereas they were mandatory initially.

Well you’re the only person I’ve ever seen say that.

I got mine done finally yesterday. Had a slightly meta approach with balance affinity.

Was in boomy form for 99% of the time in phase 1, only going bear to thrash swipe the adds. Variss dead with only 2 Infernals I found helps alot for pH 2. I hardly entered the pool, only to interupt. Use regrowth liberally on yourself, also helps gather adds.

The seed pod is INSANE. That coupled with cyclonic trinket did like 20% of my damage.

Cyclonic is a pain if you don’t have it but it’s easy to quest and farm for it. You have plenty of time. Phase 2 is a single target dps check and guardians are dog $hit at single target so anything to boost that is invaluable.

Biggest issue in phase 2 is adds getting to Velen. Try not to use an orb as adds come out of the gate, they will then use their nether tempest while separated and it’s infinatly harder to stop if they are scattered.

I saw many videos on Youtube of how they end the fight and I am surprised to see that before the first 4 ghosts come out they already did more than 30% of the total damage

I got an armor that I think is decent, reaching 21% of versatility during the fight and I can’t get past 50%

That’s frustrating…

Not to devalue others. I did not do guardian on day / week one but I done feral on day 1 mage tower in legion and it took me around 27 tries. This time it took me 29 tries. It felt easier, but the damage check was hard so I started using consumes (which I did not for 27 tries) and beat it.

Least for feral it felt the same if not slightly easier due to it’s complete revamp since 7.2 or so 7.3 don’t remember.
