I'm gonna rant again, even thou class design team clearly doesn't care one bit

All of the venting and frustration you’ll read below (should you choose to) comes from a perspective of MM hunter, but it doesn’t mean the other two specs are in any better place. I’m probably going to condence and simplify alot of stuff to shorten an already big wall of text. It’s a vent, I’m just extremely frustrated at the lack of vision for hunter class design.

PVE - it’s fine for the most part, Trueshot is still the dumbest “burst” cooldown in the game that goes against the core mechanics of the spec, forcing you to ignore Precise Shots procs in favour of more Aimed Shots. Couter Shot is ridiculously weak, weakest kick ability in the game when it comes to interrupt duration to cooldown ratio. Pet is still plagued with dumbass AI and still capable of body-pulling mobs with broken pathfinding.

PVP - this is just painful. Two weeks of relative fun of nuking people from camo - at the time where noone had gear/armor/stamina/vers, and yet we still got nerfed, and then some on top of it. Now when everyone is decked out in vers “pvp” gear - Rapid Fire barely tickles even cloth targets. Literally the repetition of BfA launch. Lack of any stun ability hurts. Aimed Shot barely deals damage unless it 's a crit, you stand there like a bafoon with your 2.5s hardcast for a pitiful ~4.5k damage, meanwhile enemy ret throws five Judgements and you and finishes you off with a 15k verdict, or even better - a boomie decided to target you during convoke, or a rogue opens on you and takes you out in 3 seconds.

Freezing trap is still trashiest CC ability I’ve laid my hands upon - still on the same DR with Scatter Shot, ridiculous travel time, can be bodyblocked/triggered by pet, for whatever reason it’s considered a spell - so it can be reflected back at you by DH’s, or ignored completely by Warriors.

Hi-Explosive Trap and Bursting Shot fail/miss half the time, because it both of those barely knock targets vertically - enemy players usually end up traveling 2 yards away and getting stopped by obsure map geometry, even on seemingly flat grounds.

Counter Shot is an even bigger problem in pvp, especially in current season where there’s a finite spells you can actually catch/be able to interrupt, and even when you do catch a cast - hybrids start popping off heals, healers barely feel a 3s interrupt and continiue with their day as if nothing happened.

Torghast - just end me, this is an absolute worst content I’ve tackled as a hunter. The sheer bloody LACK of imagination when it comes to Torghast powers, my goodness, how are you able to keep a job after making those?! Boring, static, unimaginative “powers”, gimmicky intertwined mechanics like rooting a target/throwing a trap that grant you a whole FIVE seconds of mega-dps only to drop you on the ground like a turd once the buffs are gone. It’s unbelieveable how much literal TRASH abilities there are for Hunter:

  • You can cast a fear on a mawrat and it’ll die after 3 seconds - wow, such an awesome ability.

  • Your pet can instatly kill a mawrat and gain a 100% damage for ENTIRE TEN SECONDS!

  • You can find PET snacks inside breakable pots that grant pitiful buffs to your pet.

  • You can get a 500% damage increase for your pet during Eyes of the Beast - a literal joke.

Not a single power that would affect - Rapid Fire, Arcane/multi-shot, Explosive Shot, Serpent Sting, Volley.

The literal best run I’ve had - is where I magically, through RNG, was able to stack four or five Lens of Elchaver powers - additional magic damage on critical hits. And that thing was making up around 60-70% of my overall damage.
The only saving grace is that torghast can be ran in a group, otherwise - I’d probably never finished Layer 7 and 8 of Twisting Corridors. What a fun experience it is when a resto druid maintains 100k dps, balance druid - 200k+ dps, blood dk tank - around 150k, and then you’re rocking your 20-30k with an extreme effort, right after your Misdirection goes on a cooldown, ofcourse, because your role in torghast is a freaking support.

In conclusion - can’t wait for 9.1 or 9.2 where the design team gonna have a sudden influx of “awesome” ideas to completely change how MM works, change and re-shuffle talents and redesign how Trushot works for tenth time.

Either unsubscribe or just go roll a Boomy. Seriously. There’s zero point in playing Hunter at this point. The class design team, if it there even is one, is so far beyond baked out of their minds. Hunter needs so much to get on the same playing field as any other PURE DPS class, much more any hybrid in PvP.

That’s the point. I don’t want to play a boomie. I do not enjoy a single aspect of druid archetype/playstyle, even thou I know that it is incredibly powerful. I have both rogue and ret of level 50 and ready to dive into SL - but I don’t wanna join the meta-slave train. I’ve still gotta try to get the pvp spider mount . I’ve yet to see how deep the rabbit hole of class design incompetence goes prior to 9.1.

All I can say is “YEP” and that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve been writing up my what seems like my annual revamp of the class, and I noticed that Blizz creativity seems to stop where I am at about 5 minutes into the brainstorming. That’s probably being generous. Just look at the BM talents for example and you can see they phoned the whole thing in…

on top of being pretty much the hardest class to position the mechanics you need are so unpredictable it just makes it funner than anything else

I really want to say something positive to cheer you and other Hunters up but I sadly I can’t. Your entire rant is absolutely justified. We are unfortunately in dire need of a new set of eyes and approach from the dev team in order to rescue the class from its current state.

All of these flaws become much more apparent when you try other classes and realize how much better designed and cohesive they are.

I admit, every time I currently check into the BM talent section, I just sigh.

This past weekend I decided to go the full mile and post a concept/partial rework for BM aimed at giving us some better talents(both design-wise, and performance-wise). It ofc includes some baseline changes as well.

Is it the only way I imagine for how to fix BM? No, not at all.

But even though we can get by with some numbers tuning and fixes to certain mechanical issues with the spec at this stage in the current expansion, looking further ahead towards 10.0 or so, the spec deff need more than that.

At least we can camo/FD and skip every single floor of Torghast lmao

I’m almost done mine as well. Need to add some non talent changes and the pet revamp.

And to think it’s almost bearable on certain other classes’ specs… Almost.

Yeah, it kind of quickly degenerates to “Well at least there’s one Cov’s worth of one spec in one build (and maybe even another soon!) that’s meta in PvE!

This looks pretty decent. Have to wonder where the baseline Exhilaration went though?

Oh yeah, imagine!

Two things:

  1. Aspect of the Wild is a worse “burst” cooldown than Trueshot. Not saying Trueshot isn’t bad… Just saying it’s not the worst.

  2. The latest PTR build is officially a “release candidate” without a single change to Hunters other than covenant abilities and minor buffs to unused legendaries. That tells me Blizzard really has no plans to address Hunter issues, so I’ve rolled a Shaman and will see if that holds my interest. If not, I’ll probably get bored and stop playing for three years again.

Unlike Trueshot - AotW atlest doesn’t counter the BM’s main spec mechanics, it only enhances them slight with more crit (more resets) and boost focus regen. It’s anticlimactic - yes, but whatever class design integrity BM has is not thrown out of the window like it is with MM and Trueshot.

AotW might be a better theme but its nowhere near the DPS increase.

MM has nothing to compare to AotW. I’m not going to say that BM is in a better state - it isn’t. What it does have, though, are two medium-long CDs baseline that increase DPS. MM has JUST Trueshot, and nothing in our base kit reduces its CD. Steady Shot, for example, would have SIGNIFICANTLY more value if it reduced Trueshot’s CD every time you cast it baseline (comparing focus regen to focus regen.) Or make Calling the Shots baseline. But I digress…

Also, as soon as I saw the changes to how AoE in SL was getting capped, I knew that BM would be boned. That was their strength in BFA. Not mobility (this helped) and not damage from high crit corruptions(also helped.) It was that they had uncapped AoE on a focus dump. I don’t understand why people are acting all gee whiz about why BM doesn’t pump like it used to.

Torghast for me really needs some work. They need to add some defensive abilities for our pets. Why do lock blueberries get huge defensives and we dont? How about those shammy rock elementals that can stay up permanently and barely take any damage in there?? And in latter portions of TC our pet gets one shot over and over and over. To get my mount I basically became a MM hunter. Use tar trap to immobilize and cobra shot away with my pet at my side. He was basically worthless since he insta died the moment he went near the boss. Its ludicrous.

The problem is that BM came into SL with no positive changes - only nerfs. They took an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach, but forgot about all the changes SL brought to the game as a whole. The result is BM at the very bottom in every aspect of the game, because SL is so incredibly burst-centric. MM certainly has it’s issues, but it’s still 15-20% ahead of BM.

Its weird that SL Mm is so much strong than BFA mm but at least in BFA master marksman let us get off free arcane shots during trueshot.
