It doesn’t suck, it was 4 tiers of cool looking gear… That’s all it really was.
I may not have started WoW in it’s early days but definitely I saw art and heard stories about people wearing X and Y, instantly knowing which class they were.
It was that extra added level of flair to the game. A flair that would last longer than the content themselves.
“We aren’t doing class-themed tier sets anymore. You don’t need our 20th take on that class’s fantasy in armor”
In my opinion World of Warcraft is the best MMORPG of all time.
Their creativity on making iconic classes from and introducing new ones along the way is awesome. But the choice to take away creativity from the player was a poor decision. I don’t need Blizzard’s 20th take on that class’s fantasy in armor. I need all possible untapped brain ideas that the designers had. xD
The Tier 2 sets from Classic, is a good example of a well made class themed set.
As current content: You’re a badass raider that has proven their time into grinding out the entire prog.
As old content: You’re a badass who LOVES their class. You have taken the time in reclearing after reset after reset to obtain and collect the appearance.
In contrast, you have BFA with their new sets from Uldir, BOD, EP, and Ny’alotha.
As current content: You have different tints that show if you took that extra step to go Heroic/Mythic. (been there for a while now)
As old content: you farmed lockout after lockout for that specific set.
And that is all there is to it, transmog is transmog. Just another one to the collection. Sure you can see a Famed slayer rocking a full brand new set from BOD, but its missing that flair that existed from the beginning of WoW (ended in Legion).
Example of a great class themed set would have to be one from Legion.
The themed set from Nighthold, pretty much a modern day Tier 2.
-Captures the theme and flair of one’s fantasy character.
-Further upgrades and increases their flair with Mythic.
You still have people farming for this stuff man!
Antorus, the Burning Throne is a perfect example of a re-imagine set. That has previously been out there.
Thank you for reading this far so far
My take on how things should have been handled.
Keep the class themed sets like Legion, it can be new like the tier from Nighthold, or a re imagination from Antorus.
Secondly add these new different types of armor as a challenge reward. (sets from BFA)
Example of themed sets:
New tier themed sets as a reward for maybe Mythic+ instead.
G’hunnies, Bwonslami, Eternal Palace, and N’zoth themed set for
Add new sets for challenges like a the Mage Tower from Legion or Dungeon Challenges from MOP.
These add a little extra layer of “holy moly you did it bro!”
-You did a 5 mask clear? HES GOT 5 MASK DONE!
–You completed 100 levels of Torghast? WHOA HES DONE 100 LEVELS!
—You completed all Mythic+ Dungeons on time? AWESOME!
----You completed all 15s on time? EVEN MORE AWESOME.
-----Gladiator mog still there— OMG ITS A GLADIATOR!
Over all I just feel like there the removal of classed themed tier mogs was a mistake and the new sets could have been added along side the class themed sets.
Adding both tier/class based themed sets where the class themed sets are for maybe raiding/pvping.
Add new tier themed sets as a reward for new challenging content such as M+, Torghast, and Visions.
Shadowlands looking lit!
