TL;DR: All we want is: when flying becomes unlocked for Dragonflight, please just let us fly. Standard mount and cast speed. No gimmicks, no added benefits. I just want to fly around the world on my own two wings. PLEASE.
We’re literally dragons. It makes no sense that I have to ride a dragon in order to fly “or soar” on a 4 min CD, when I myself am a dragon. What?
Why can’t I just fly around the world, at standard flying mount speed, like if I were riding a mount? It doesn’t even have to be an instant cast like for druids.
Please!

They can, just not players. NPCs fly around like it’s nothing. I am just assuming that since Evoker is meant to be a special class among the Dracthyr, and that our character is regarded as skilled for completing the training to be one, we didn’t have time to exercise our wings and thus we get tired very easily.
Kidding aside, there are full animations for normal flight for Dracthyr, they are just not used by the player character. If it had been up to me Soar would have been a dragonriding skill rather than the hop it is, and it would have worked where dragonriding was available and just shared vigor/cooldowns. I would have also given Dracthyr a “Flying Wild” kind of skill that let them use themselves as a normal flying mount that would just hover along the ground in zones you can’t fly.
Alas, we got neither of these, so get ready to either shift into Visage for a lot of mounts, or just put up with how stupid it looks for your winged character to have to ride a flying mount to fly.

I think it’s like chickens. They can kinda fly a bit with motivation, but aren’t built to sustain flight.

Such a simple solution that’s way too damn complex for Blizzard apparently.

They are skinny and lack stamina

Fun isn’t a priority for Blizzard anymore.
More…turning everything into something like a battle pass.

Lorewise they are, just not our characters. NPCs are fine though. Do things like fly away from you constantly, talk about preferring to fly to the Dragon Isles rather than take a boat, etc.

i wouldn’t care if they got regular flight or whatever, but they do get a unique kit (lots of hovering, floating and flying around, even during combat), and a cooler version of flight imo
i’m excited to have that because i already play a druid

Why can’t demon hunters fly but Illidan can?

I think this is dumb too. At least you guys can glide… and it’s not on a CD.

We don’t glide, we fall with style.

There isnt a good reason, Devs just decided to make it a certain way.
No reason druids couldnt use flight form with soar mechanics either.

a body heavier than air can not fly. it’s because gravity overpowers its bouyancy.

Most of the time you can’t fly at the beginning of an expansion. Cataclysm may have been the exception to the rule. So why is it such a puzzle that you can’t fly in DF?

I have no clue, we’ll all have to wait and see what kind of bs excuse Blizz will come up with once DF has been out for some time, but what I’m talking about (as well as a bit of the OP’s post) is just having a regular flying button (akin to a mount or druid flight) to fly like airborne mounts. That’s literally all they would have to do.

Because blizz doesn’t want them to.
They don’t really get this. Soar to dragonriding is like if Druid Flight Form just shot you straight up and let you glide to the ground again before forcing you out of the transformation and making you wait a few minutes before using it again. With Soar you have a few abilities you can use a very limited amount of times, and then you need to land and wait. It’s good for small hops, but you will end up having to use your drake most of the time.
