I'm dropping mage, despite enjoying it

Frostfire, the more fun hero talent for fire, is like a 15% DPS loss all on its own.

Taking hyperthermia and sunking’s blessing drops your damage another 20% as opposed to talents that passively buff your damage.

So I’m out here doing tank damage because the meta build for fire mage is horrendously braindead and boring, and it’s so much worse than I thought it was! I thought I was doing ~13% less damage. Nonono, I’m doing ~34% less damage than I should be doing.

The meta builds, however, legit put me to sleep.

I can’t stand Actigarbage.

Just play what you like, and try to make up for the difference in other ways.

You’re a talking staff, you’ll figure it out.

For frost too. Best hero tree in the game.

You’re mad that your harder-to-play build is doing less dmg than the recommended build?

There is no making up a 35% damage loss bro.

I’m looking at pushing to +20s next season. There’s no way I do that doing 65% of my potential DPS even if I play legit perfectly.

Harder to play is irrelevant. Just on sims it’s ~35% less DPS. In practice it’d be even more!

Sounds like a skill issue, ngl

Yeah on the part of the geniuses that designed these talent trees that really don’t have any choices.

But what more would I expect from Activision?

Isn’t Fire getting some changes next patch, or did I make that up?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you are doing tank damage…it’s not the build’s fault.

I was gonna say, unless your pushing hard its nothing to write home about, but yea I can see why you wouldnt want to play a spec at 35% loss.

I think people put entirely too much stock in sims

Yeah, and my build stays just as bad. I get ~3% more DPS.

Legit do nothing else but change my talents and I get tons of damage on sims. From ~3.8M to 5.5M.

Even just looking at how I perform in keys my build sucks. I’m being out damaged by people much lower ilvl than me.

Fair enough, wasn’t sure

Sims are statistical and not based on vibes.

A 1-2% difference between sims of two options is minmaxing and the difference can be made up with skill. A 35% difference between sims is catastrophic and indication of a deeper design issue.

Have you tried arcane? It’s quite fun in my opinion, it’s a spec that seems simple but has a lot of depth in m+ due to all the different barrage conditions that exist.

Yep, I don’t find it fun. Same with frost.

I enjoyed fire because of all the RNG procs, fire blast being off the GCD, and all the interactions going off all the time. You never really knew what your next button press was goinna be.

Turns out all that was trolling. The only viable build is one that focuses on two buttons and just turns your brain off.

So time to find a new class. I don’t really enjoy arms anywhere near as much, but my build is only 1%ish behind the meta build. Or maybe back to healing which I’m good enough at to make any build I think of work, even if it’s not fun anymore.

Might I interest you in another braindead class and spec, the BM Hunter?

I don’t like pet classes.

Probably just goinna go to arms and be bored but actually do something useful, or back to aug and gray parse my way to 20s and feel like I’m trolling.
