I'm considering developing an open-source alternative to the Twitch/Curse client. What do you think?

Last summer, I started working on an open-source add-on manager for WoW (https://github.com/OpenAddOnManager/OpenAddOnManager). I put it on the back burner after speaking with some add-on authors that said they really wouldn’t be interested in moving off of Curse because of its CI tools. They also apparently get some compensation for downloads, presumably driven by ads shown in the desktop app.

However, it has come to my attention that there is some concern surrounding Overwolf’s acquisition of Curse from Twitch. Do you think I should pick up where I left off and hopefully get to a nice stable release of this competing app?

There is a lot of competition at least

Preferably something where addon authors don’t have to “switch”, then the curseforge rewards program wouldn’t be an issue anyway for authors

The important thing would be to get a userbase for your app, https://wowup.io/ and https://github.com/AcidWeb/CurseBreaker seem to be ahead currently so it’s hard to say if you should pick up unless you really like developing it

This is precisely what won’t be possible if Overwolf has any intention of leveraging their control of Curse.
