And I was wondering if anyone here truly knows their stuff and could assist me. I did a lot of research last night and made a list of components. Maybe people have suggestions, comments, etc. I really want to keep it cheap, around 1000-1200 and all from Best Buy parts. Here is what I came up with.
Power supply unit (PSU)
($160) EVGA GQ Series 850W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply
Central processing unit (CPU)
($200) Intel Core i5-9600K 9th Gen 6-Core 6-Thread 3.7 GHz Socket LGA 1151
Motherboard
($150) MSI B550 Gaming Plus (Socket AM4) USB-C Gen 2 AMD ATX Gaming Motherboard PCIE Gen 4
Operating system (OS)
($140) Windows 10 Home English
I’d get a 5600x if you can find one, but then again in game workloads its not much different than the 10600k so if that is cheaper it might be a better option.
Also, it is available. The 5600x is gone at this point.
Cool - one thing to consider is that even at $259, it’s a good deal. I don’t know if you can transfer that SL key to anyone else, but you also will get Godfall if you want.
I would still get the 5600 XT, since the 2060 isn’t really going to be doing any RTX in WoW anyway. and this 5600 XT model is a much higher end model cooling wise and cheaper. Generally comes out slightly ahead in most titles as well.
I really appreciate the help, Salranas. Do you build your own computers? Do you have any recommendations for a noob? What tools do I need? Any specifics I need to know about?
What above said - those are good resources on youtube and it doesn’t take any specialized tools or knowledge. Just a workspace and a screwdriver and a bit of patience.
Any of the videos by the major channels should work fine - look less at individual parts (as that changes over time) and more at the methodology.
Use pcpartpicker.com to help you get your blueprint, which also filters for compatibility (with good confidence, if not flawless) and then use your own means to find deals. Not all deals show up on that site, so find the best deals between local and internet retailers.
Some things are pretty much a science, like what part fits with what, but a lot of them are personal preference such as cases and coolers/rgb type stuff.
I’d recommend at this point in time to just skip any 2.5" tray drives and just get an m.2 nvme SSD - that would minimize clutter, its faster, and they are cheap nowadays.
If you want, you can make a pcpartpicker.com list and show us for feedback.
Or, if you prefer, you can give us some requirements (use, budget, etc.) and we can give some suggestions.
Wow this is great information. And some people out there are absolutely convinced that the WOW community is toxic. Yet here I am getting awesome advice on computers. Thanks again. I’m going to check out those YouTube videos now and learn some more. You guys are awesome. And I’m so excited to build my new PC!
But yeah fam, Show us build pictures after, And remember you can put the boxes on display somewhere as a decoration if you dont mangle them, Many people do that
