I'm bad at casters. Which healer is right for me?

Trying to get into healing this expansion. I’ve never been good at casters since they don’t click with me. Any suggestions for healers?

Are there any instant cast healers that aren’t primarily in melee range, or maybe healers without too many buttons? I’ve been seeing MW Monk and Resto Druid come up a lot, but I also got the impression they might be a bit tough if I don’t know what I’m doing.

Thanks lads

I would say priest or shaman but they’re supposedly buggy atm.

Fistweaver.

Rsham is also reactive and overtuned enough to be easily approachable.

Resto Druid is actually pretty easy IF your comfortable tracking HoTs either through frames or weaknauras.

Most of their spells are instant, so you can keep moving. I’m not sure if power level as I haven’t played resto since DF

Holy priest and Rsham are the easiest in that there’s very little setup required to heal effectively. Most other healers have ramps that could be challenging to learn if you’ve never healed.

Between hpriest and rsham, if you’re looking for as few buttons as possible, I’d go hpriest. Flash heal procs make it instant cast and most of your holy words are instant.

Resto Druid is the only one with minimal hard casting. All healers have some variety of instant cast heals but they lean a lot more hard casting. This iteration of resto Shaman might be close because riptide and instant chain heals from totems is getting up there…

i feel like rdruid might work but idk how much ‘heal n forget’ it is this expac

Thanks for the input so far. Kinda surprised about Hpriest suggestions, was kinda getting the vibe that they have a lot of buttons.

Question about Monk. Is it hard to stay in melee and heal? How does healing ranged dps work?

Shammy prolly better. More zone control and instant drops than chain healing stuff.

MW monk has loads of instant cast, and their triage requires no cast times either. As a MW you also get frequent casts of vivify that are instant and can use thunder focus tea to make other spells instant cast. The only major heal with a cast time as a MW is enveloping mists, but you can also use chi-ji mechanics to make that instant cast as well.

The downside is MW has no dmg reduction in their toolkit, no lust, no bres, and are melee focused

Ancient teachings was buffed to hit players up to 40 yrds away in DF (and we kept this in TWW too! :D), and most of your traditional heals still have a large range on them. It is really easy to heal ranged classes now, versus back in shadowlands or early DF.

Playing in melee isn’t as bad as people think. You have quite a few defensives as a MW, and tons of mobility. And you have loads of stuff you can cast while moving (renewing mist, jadefire stomp + spinning crane kick, vivify, fistweaving, conduit of the celestials, chi-ji etc.)

Megasett makes some good videos that go in great detail over MW and their mechanics.

R shaman all the way

I’d say hpal is what you’re looking for. Lots of instant casts and melee range.

I actually really don’t want to be in melee range while learning, but I can try it out.

They do. I have like 6 macros for my holy priest just for castsequences and combined instant casts. You could build more passively and choose not to bind some spells and be okay, but I’ve never had to do that with any other class I’ve played.

Druid is versatile and can be simple if you build more around regrowth and nourish.
Shaman is definitely simple & has great hard cast and instant cast spells.

I think your instincts are spot on. I’m not sure how much experience you have as healer but in my opinion melee healers are the most challenging. Healing often turns into a game of whack a mole, where the moles are health bars. Its easier for me to watch floor puddles in my perefory while whacking those moles than watching my melee positioning.

My pick for a newbie healer would be H Priest or Resto Shaman. Both are ranged. Both are kits that have reactionary skills so you don’t need to be pre-planning shields (disc priest) or HOTS (Resto druid). They also have a handful of “OH SNAP” buttons when it’s all going to hell. I’d lean to shaman for 5 man and priest for raids based on the of their skills.

All that said, you say you don’t play casters which is an interesting caveat. If youve been playing melee your entire wow career than you might watch all those melee mechanics in your perefory more naturally than I do. If that’s the case you would might like monk or h pal. In any case I wouldn’t boost. Healing isn’t a game where you can learn a dps rotation and jump in a raid. You need to learn the skills and when to use each of them for the circumstances in real time.

PS I love healing.

How did you go OP?

I am thinking of trying out some healing too.

Preservation Evoker doesn’t actually have a lot of buttons, you just kind of have to get creative and combine abilities… it’s a really unique and fun experience, and not that hard really.
Holy priest is easy but low ceiling this season… some frustrating M+ moments where you just can’t move and heal, and poisons will kill you.

There’s a reason Resto Shaman is the meta healer right now. The rotation isn’t overly complicated, they have powerful cooldowns for triage healing, and they have an interrupt and CC.

In Dragonflight Season 3 and 4 I healed on Holy and Disc Priest, Pres Evoker, Resto Druid, Mistweaver Monk, and a little bit of Holy Paladin. For me, Holy Priest is the easiest spec since it’s all about reactive healing and bombing big Flash Heals and Heals with some strong instant casts with Serenity and Sanctify.

But if you’re bad at casters, and you don’t want to be in melee range, then there aren’t really many options. Mistweaver Monk heals through doing melee damage, and Holy Paladin wants to be in melee range to build holy power, and then has instant casts like Holy Shock and Word of Glory.

So yeah, maybe give Holy Paladin a try? Having Divine Shield is pretty nice as a healer since you can go immune if you’re in an emergency situation.

I don’t have a ton of time to commit right now, but I’ve been testing the waters with my MW Monk and leveling a Resto Druid on the side. I have a Shammy I want to level a bit more as well, but I haven’t touched it more than a little bit.

Monk is definitely fun, but I really like clicking heads as Resto Druid. Neither have touched M+ yet, so not much to say there. Disc Priest is something I leveled a long time ago and wish I enjoyed, but I’m terrible at it.

Honestly, healing is rough for me. I have some time off soon, so I’ll give it a real good shot then. Still checking in here for advice every so often!
