I'm always the lowest DPS in Mythic+ groups

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. After the mythic, Details has my DPS at 2.9k to 3.8k

I’m at ilvl 212. I think I should be putting up considerably better numbers. At the first pull, a lot of times, I’m at the top DPS rank. Then at the end, more than half of the time, I’m lowest in the group.

Ret is 100% based around wings. If your M+ DPS is low I can almost guarantee you’re sitting on wings at times. There’s no hard and fast rule, but generally you don’t want to sit on wings even if you’re only doing one trash pack before the boss. Pop wings on CD even if the pack seems trivial, and if you ever feel like popping wings was a big mistake on a pack, take note of it and hold wings there next time.

That aside, Ret tuning really isn’t there to begin with. Ret damage isn’t great.

In dungeons, run Sanctified Wrath, Empyrean Power, and Zeal. It’s like a 50 DPS loss on single target, but a big gain for AoE.

Craft Mad Paragon or Tempest of the Lightbringer if you don’t already have one. I use Mad Paragon for almost everything.

Don’t be afraid to pop cooldowns on trash. A huge chunk of your damage is in your CDs, and you can get 15+ sets of wings in a dungeon if you use it on cooldown.

I redid my talents to Sanctified Wrath, Empyrean Power, and Zeal.

I’m going to try it now. Hopefully it works.

Let me offer an alternative build…
Zeal, emp pwr, FR and Temp lego.

Wings+FR+divine toll will mage for some very high DPS during those pulls. Yes SW may be higher for the pulls with wings up but with FR you have a CD to use every other pull. When you don’t have wings but you have FR and Divine toll, build 5 holy power, cast FR, use divine storm then cast divine toll after you use holy power and it won’t overcap holy power.

There is nothing wrong with holding wings or your other CDs if the next pack has more mobs or a nasty priority mob you need to kill.

Ret lives and dies on the trash, our single target is actually pretty bad, one of the lowest in the game if you sort by item level (the only fair way to compare). If you sim SW and mad paragon vs FR and TotL you will find single target the difference is not terribly high, but you will likely lose damage on the trash with SW.

You will not be out damaging most of the other classes when fighting the boss, yes there will be exceptions based on CDs available, item level or mechanics etc.

I transferred so you can’t check my profile. In BFA I was timing 17s before I took a break from the game, right now I’m running with an off meta comp and we should get Keystone Master this week if we can get the right keys I’m only missing 2, missed a 16 by less than 30 seconds or it would be one. We are running a few keys 1-2 nights a week. I’m not top tier but I’ve had some success with the build I mentioned.

Ret kinda sucks RN TBH we were better off in BFA in both raiding and M+ than we are right now, as hard as that is to believe, it’s very true. We need about a 5-10 item level advantage to compete with the top tier classes.

I agree with Lightyears. I pvp and do solo things, but I do a dung here and there. When I did a mythic run, I used my wings and FR quite a bit. I have found FR can do quite a bit for you, and he said you can have it every other pull. Wings+Seph+FR can setup a very nice damage boost and put your numbers up there. I am only 198 in my ret gear, but I have come out of places not feeling like I did not do my part.

What’s FR?

Final Reckoning.

Final Reckoning is a bit of a trade off. In a single target fight it won’t do much for you, however in trash pulls it can boost your burst quite well. I usually forget to modify my build when I join guild for M+ and run my PvP build and still don’t do poorly. Build 5 HP, Sera+Wings, Divine Toll, Final Reckoning, Divine Storm, Wake of Ashes, Divine Storm, Judgment/Blade of Justice, Divine Storm.

You’ll rip aggro like crazy, however the trade off is that burst can pull 10k+ dps very easily. If you have Lightbringer you’ll see that number rise further.

My DPS improved quite a bit. I’m doin around 4.6k on average now. I haven’t tried FInal Reckoning yet, though. I’ll try it and hopefully it improves my DPS a bit more.

One thing to keep in mind is typically as you get close to 5k the average DPS over a dungeon is going to start leaning more towards how the tank pulls rather than your own performance.
