This completely diminishes any skill or competitiveness from rated PVP. You have it totally backwards. Non rated PVP means nothing, it’s casual and should be fun. Maybe there should be a base item level (something very small, like 300 or something) but you should feel more powerful in casual/world PVP situations based on your gear.
I’m always curious on people’s experience with competitive gaming, because it seems like there’s very little on these forums.
These guys have done just as much of the grind as you have, if not more. They are just being smart about which pieces to equip and what low ilvl pieces to put in the other slots where they scrapped the high ilvl pieces. Basically, they’ve found the only way in the game to do significant customization of their characters.
Blizzard doesn’t need to take the scaling out. Instead, they should fix this issue by providing a wider range of customization of primary and secondary stats on PVP gear, along with a fix to the healing scaling bug if they reused the PVE scaling code.
Scaling as it is right now in PVP is much more than simply “this person is scaled to item level XYZ” and we’ve all seen the evidence to support that. There are weird things going on with Azerite traits (another system that should be completely disabled inside of rated PVP) and the fact that two people will see two completely different damage numbers in their combat log.
If all that was happening was Blizzard was scaling people’s item level, that’d be fine. It would actually work better then it does in Timewalking dungeons because everybody is scaled equally.
But for some reason, Blizzard seems to have given the scaling project to one of the summer interns who finished about 60% of the project and went back to school.
Preach it brotha! 100% how i feel. I understand it’s an mmo and blizzard has every right to make change but azerite traits are a nightmare for the casual rnger which once was on an even playing field
er. no lifers. getting gear is so pathetically easy now, you can do the bare minimum and be 360+. That’s more then enough gear to get you to 1800-2100+ EVEN if ilvl mattered. Between the weekly chest and the world pvp boss, there is 0 excuse to say gearing is an issue. It’s just wanting free hand outs. Gear ilvl should matter. it’s annoying players can get ANY type of advantage using low ilvl gear.
Just make moves do % based dmg, but reduced by armor. For example, cobra shot does 1.5% of targets health. If hitting a plate wearer, it does 1%. Make mortal strike do 8% of target’s health. If hitting plate it does 6% dmg.
Make spells do full dmg on plate, but less vs casters.
I think the easy fix to PvP scaling and people intentionally doing it would be to make it based on your highest BAG ilvl ever. So for instance if you bag ilvl was 380 but you wore 340 gear in arena, you would still be scaled to 380. furthermore you could implement somthing that locks in your highest bag ilvl ever. So it would prevent people from getting good gear and selling it to keep their bag ilvl low.
You couldn’t though. If it changed gear to 340 then a 370 azerite would become it’s 340 version. Which means the bonus would be the 340 version, there’s no way to abuse it the way we’re seeing with scaling.
No. This is a MMO. This isn’t CoD, or CS:GO. This is WoW. Gear should matter. You shouldnt just hit 120 on a fresh toon and hop into arena and be on a even playing field. That not how a MMO works. Their needs to be character progression, gear needs to matter. The people who are skilled will climb and get geared. All the people at the top will be geared and on a near even playing field when it comes to gear.
Just my opinion on how I think pvp should work in a MMO.
This doesnt fix anything. My Ilvl is like 385 I think. I dont pvp in that gear. I pvp in 377 ilvl gear. So why should I be punished for wearing lower gear with BETTER AND CORRECT stats just because I have gear with a higher ilvl in my bad that is not my best stats?
They should make it where the ilvl of gear both in random instances and arena scale to a certain ilvl in instanced PvP, so people are fighting at an equal ilvl but make it so the arena gear doesn’t scale down out of instanced pvp so those who go the extra mile for rating get their little extra oomf out in WPvP.
Or again make gear matter, this is a MMO. Once you get geared and good and climb to the top guess what? Everyone else is geared and good. This only effects people with crap gear or who reroll the flavor of the month. It also give people with bad, decent, or good gear a incentive to climb and get better gear sense it will matter.
We just need PvP gear vendors. A player with no gear does battlegrounds or skirmishes to get the honor for better gear. Then eventually all players who cap on conquest gear get a base item level that is equal across all players in the arena. Put a stat like resilience or set bonuses that only work in pvp so pvp gear doesnt infiltrate pve. Make the stat or set bonuses from the pvp gear necessary to pvp so pve gear doesnt come into arena. Can balance the game around nerfing/ buffing the set bonuses so nerfing and buffing classes in the traditional sense doesnt bleed between pvp and pve. Every player in PvP will have equal item level gear so gear doesnt play a part in arena once u are a few weeks into pvping and have the full sets. Skill would more highly reflect the outcome of an arena as opposed to the gear.
