Second time on second class I see players running around with 70-80k hp and doing insane damage.
Let me explain how this bug works:
The damage you do is relative to your own hp / gearscore. So anyone with a gearscore that’s low enough should do relative damage to someone with decked out gear.
The problem is, even when your gear score goes down, if you stack azerite traits and keep the ilvl of Neck, Chest, Shoulder, Helm, and Weapons at 370+, and wear 266 gear in other slots, you get the full damage of the azerite traits which scales to over 2x the damage it should do because it is relative to your own HP and ilvl, with a boost in damage from weapons, which is basically “Twinking” at max level.
So a ilvl 360 person with average trait shields, heals, and damage up against a super charged machine at ilvl 300 with 2x the power from his traits and even more damage.
This type of behavior needs to be curbed or promoted as the way you want the game to be played.

I always see people complaining about this if I play with a freshly leveled alt lol. I am pretty sure whatever bugs there were with this, did end up getting fixed. Now I think it’s mostly just rumours.

I can honestly say, ive never faced anyone with hp in the 70k-80k range at my cr (2200+). And if I did, i’m pretty sure it was at very low rating and I absolutely stomped them. Maybe this has since been fixed?

Yeah most of them are not good, they lack mechanics and awareness. They are using this to boost between 1200-1700 usually, you fight a wall of them there. I’m not saying I can’t win, I have, but it’s annoying to be up against a disadvantage if skill seems to be relatively the same.
Or it’s just someone hearing their alt a bit through pvp
Seriously ilvl doesn’t matter lol
@dillon if it was fixed then some sort of announcement or patch notes would have been released, no?

Unless the traits are super strong this wouldn’t matter. Most traits only add a couple percent extra damage. Any trait that breaks this scaling is already broken
Wasn’t fixed and it still is somewhat of a problem. Gear generally doesn’t matter as much in PvP currently but the scaling allows it to be in favor of someone with lower iLvl.
The damage you’d do to someone with a lower HP pool wouldn’t be the same relative to someone with a higher HP pool. An ability that should do probably 10% of their health may only do 8%.
The effect it has is small but it’s still something that can cause issues in closer games. I’ve started seeing full teams of people with sub 100k HP at around 2100-2200 MMR and after a quick armory check, they’re all doing it.

What is gross is in legion they nerf’d stats to where Ilvl would always be the best choice, and now we just get Beta for Azeroth garbage

The only times it’s ever been supee gimmicky is a trait that’s really busted and making it hit harder is able to one shot people. Otherwise you are at a disadvantage playing a lower iLvL and worse geared character. I frequently notice the lack of strength when playing my alt hunter vs my main. Having better gear absolutely is more important, and playing with someone undergeared has been a disadvantage in all my experiences outside of those few gimmicky situations that were cleared up.
Even the people that would log out with green gear and tons of sockets were just doing it as a troll lol. The system is confusing and I will give it that, but it still is a disadvantage to be undergeared. Any instances you notice it truly giving an advantage is a bug.

Try giving your helm, should, chest, and weapons an upgrade and everything else not. Yeah when those items aren’t good you’re undergeared. But when they are way over geared for your ilvl you’re unstoppable against someone with your skill. It’s manpulating the numbers.
I have been in those exact same situations lol. I can assure you, it is a disadvantage to do so currently. There have been bugs with it, I even remember Cdew showing a video about it and it was adressed. Unless you have some video evidence with proof that you’re seeing a bug happening again then I can safely say being undergeared will be a disadvantage.
ill take some videos of it happening, no problem. I won’t do it myself though, won’t catch me ever doing that.

If it’s a bug report and you’re making a video testing and proving it you won’t get in trouble, just like how Cdew did the same exact thing. There is scaling, you have to prove that it is currently bugged and causing an advantage of being undergeared vs normal gearing.
it doesnt exist anymore. you are just getting baited

iLvl scaling doesn’t need to be tuned that closely. End of story. People who are undergeared and have 80k HP, should not be able to be within 10% fake stats of someone who has 145k. PERIOD.
well, you see, damage is scaled. so your 20k normal hit doesn’t hit for 20k. yeah you see the number show up whatever it is, but that won’t be 20k. you’re scaled to about even power, but get yourself a way to have a higher power weapon for your number… it’s algebra
Of course, all of this could be cleared up if Blizzard would take two minutes to explain the scaling system. Guess those two minutes would cost Mythic+ something, so they don’t have time.

I haven’t played much higher than 2k this season but I’ve seen quite a few with low hp doing arenas at 1200 or 1800+. Honestly I dont think it’s to exploit some scaling issue. When you ding 120 you have the choice to start queuing arena with rubbish gear and 285 ilvl azerite pieces or grind for a week to get some decent gear and then queue. Soon as someone sees someone in arena with 80k hp they seem to make the assumption they are using some exploit. For me personally I’d rather just jump in to arena at 300 ilvl and get gear as I get it. It’s not about exploiting it’s about just playing a feature of the game you enjoy. I have quite a few 120’s now and honestly felt like I was disadvantage starting arena with low ilvl.
