Ilvl not = upgrade, still

Ion said ilvl upgrades should always feel good, and actual upgrades. This has really never been true for Azerite armor, the main part of this xpac.

Every new patch, higher and higher ilvl is required to get the same traits you had before. None of my alts get decent azerite gear anymore, as a result of this since you don’t even get 2 DPS outside traits nor a middle even with the new ‘catch up gear’ which is HARDER to get and ARMOR TYPE SPECIFIC because why not.

When simmed, DPS loss. Feels like a DPS loss and a bad thing going from more traits to less. No reason it shouldn’t have the same amount of traits.

This was made even worse with Corruption, where lower ilvl drops can end up a ‘dps increase’ with far less base/secondary stats.

There’s really not a good reason why Azerite armor has to get downgraded every patch to where you’re missing 2 slots only making it harder to properly gear alts where the main source of gearing is world content… Which brings me to the OTHER problem.

WQs and Emissaries scaling with character ilvl, sometimes not making very much sense. My ilvl will be 415, all the Azerite gear rewards… will be 415. Not an upgrade at all by ilvl, AND by missing rings not a DPS upgrade either. WQ stuff needs to be further pushed up how far it goes when ‘scaling’ with alts ilvls and ilvls should pretty much always, outside of 5 ilvl increases for difference in secondaries, be an upgrade.

Item level = stat budget.

step 1: put primary stats back on rings and necks(for future expansions obviously before anyones like LUL NECKS)

step 2: buff primary stat to 2 AP/SP per point again

poof ilvl is upgrade almost 100% of the time its fixed i did it

This is why I don’t really listen to Ion anymore. You can’t really trust he is going to stick with what he says. The moment he said they didn’t want people to play demonology and nerfed the spec to make it bad, he pretty much lost me.

Ilvl should be removed from the interface.

Or… remove every other stat from the game. That’d gaurantee an ilvl upgrade is always an upgrade!

It’d also be woefully boring.

Step 1) removes any uniqueness with rings from other armor slots. Yay more sameness/

Step 2) Can possibly help, but as long as the classes themselves have feedback synergy with stats (something people tend to like) it’s hard for primaries to stay on top all expansion.

Tier sets did not have this problem.

Edit seems I was wrong, i forgot how Shamans used a tier set from the previous expac at one point.

Still, rather have them than Azerite any day.

They sort of did? Some people would stack old tier sets for their 2-4 set bonus if it was good enough. It was one of the complaints coming from Legion along with ilvl not being an upgrade which Blizzard said would be fixed in BFA. We know how that turned out.

??

There were times that some classes/specs used tiersets from a previous raid tier because the bonus was too good to get rid of.

rings are criminally horrible to upgrade right now because a socket on a ring is worth 20+ ilvls on them, and having no primary stat makes a 40 ilvl difference completely meaningless. With no primary stat there’s literally no way to balance them to where it’s clear to see when one is clearly an upgrade over another.

people are literally complaining that a number that was just a number is still just being a NUMBER.
like man, ilvl should be deleted from the game, what matters is the stats, and it’s definitely a good thing when you need to decide between some nicer traits or just a higher ilvl, separates good players from baddies.

That’s why I never get an upgrade to timewalking rings that have main stat on them.

Ion says a lot of things. If he says the goal is to do something that by all appearances never happens, I figure it wasn’t a goal, just him rambling and saying stuff to keep people happy.

Without that ‘#’ it’d be: "Why am I getting this from the new content that is supposed to be giving me upgrades but isn’t? Then no one would be doing world content, and the game would start dying. Funny you talk about ‘seperating good from the bads’ but you both play DH and don’t mythic raid or do anything of note.

This is only partially correct when item level is presented to players by the game as a measure of power as evidenced by requiring minimum item levels to queue for certain content and allowing a minimum item level to be set in the group finder. The game teaches new players that item level = power when that’s quite frequently wrong. Item level is never actually presented by the game to players as an item’s stat budget.

The aim of the present gearing system seems to be to give raiders a huge advantage over casuals who aren’t motivated to stay on top of a system that isn’t going to be very rewarding no matter what they do.

That’s just consistent with the fact that no useful information is actually presented to players by the game. Everything must be learned by accessing outside websites, often with paywalls.

no one is doing world content RIGHT NOW because a whole lotta features are instanced. i ain’t doing raids cuz people are looking for 450 to do a normal (which is just time losing since i won’t get any gear upgrades), but i didn’t need to tell you that.
if an item isn’t an upgrade even if its a newer content whats wrong with that? it just happens.

I want systems that allow 2-4-6-8-10-12 months of progression. I do think those are good things BUT it needs to be incremental and deterministic in design.

Like power gains maybe go 25-50-75-80-85-90-95-97-99-100 in that way. So that if you want cutting edge you just put in that extra month or two, always and the best cosmetic upgrades should be in the final tiers of completion.

Some of it can be RNG but really only the start I think. Maybe some of the middle, too. The ones at the 6-12 month marks must all be deterministic. Put the time in if you want the reward.

And yes, putting time in should be more than grinding world quests. Options on putting your time in are just as important.

This is kinda how I feel. If he is just saying stuff to make people happy, but not following through… Well…

Words mean nothing. Actions mean everything. I’ve stopped listening to him because the actions don’t match the words.

Ah yes, I’m not doing world content and no one is doing the uldum/vale or kul’tiras/zandalar WQs or emissaries. Totally. SA needs their own forums at this point.

It’s a very generic baseline that raid finders uses so they don’t get someone in 289 greens queuing for Nylatha. And it only counts average not a given slot.

It’s not a guide for each individual a lot item.
