iLvL at Event Completion or Box Open?

Couldn’t find a lot of information on this, but I’ve always wondered when it comes to gear/loot bags…

Since some of the caches scale with your iLvL, is the iLvL determined when the cache/bag/box is earned, or is it determined at the moment of opening? I always assumed the latter -

Any sense waiting until the end of the week to raise iLvL through other WQs, dungeons, etc before opening?

Good question, I asked myself this as well after learning the weekly chests scale off ilvl.

I saved 2x each weekly epic box (except the soup as it’s unique) and opened them when I hit 265…

0 upgrades. Bunch of 3-6 ilvl lower pieces.

So, your thought is the iLvL is determined at the time of quest completion and/or bag acceptance?

I think it is set when you complete the event so you are best off not completing events until near the end of the week, if you really care about that stuff.

Typically the loot in any loot bag is rolled when it’s given to you, not when you open it. It’s similar to how if you kill a boss and his loot chest appears, changing your loot spec before opening the box doesn’t matter because the loot was rolled the second the boss died, not when you walk over and open the chest he left.

This! Thank you - just wish I could find a source for that type of coding/loot rule, and when/if it applies in any giving situation. Your logic makes sense, though -
