So I personally do not like the maw and find it boring. Not a maw sucks thread, it’s just my opinion. I get some like it.
My question is, What benefits do we get from the maw? Am I missing anything substantial by skipping over it? I prefer not to do things I don’t enjoy but curious if there’s anything worth doing or if it gets better maybe?

From what I have seen thing i have seen that comes from the maw (as of 12/15/2020) are souls for covenants and styiga. Souls are needed to upgrade things at your home base. PERSONALLY I find looking for souls quick and easy about 20/30 minutes tops.
styiga is used for the maw vendor for Torghast upgrades mainly. there are a few other things she sells as well (a mount i think?).
Beyond the souls quest you can basically skip the maw.

Honestly, just do the weekly maw quests and you’ll be fine. There’s no need to farm the Maw every day. As of right now the only good thing gated behind rep is the ability to put a socket on a piece of gear.

I only do the weekly saving soul quest. Took like 10 min and never come back for the rest of the week.

Yea I do weekly souls one and that’s about all. Sounds like not much missing from it other than the socket benefit which I can forego. Not a big deal for me.

look up the NPC Ve’nari on WOWhead and what he sells. that is the reputation for the Maw. i would link it but im not allowed because i am a bad boy.
as others have stated, at max rep he sells the item that allows you to add sockets to gear which isnt useful right now as everyone is constantly upgrading their gear, but will become something everyone wants to unlock eventually.
he also sells one time unlock items that benefit you in torghast that give you more/powerful anima powers for cheaper which will make the highest levels of torghast easier/faster/more fun. since we dont have the highest levels of torghast yet it remains to be seen if they will be do-able without the ve’nari unlocks or not.
as others have stated you will probably slowly unlock all this if you just do the weekly quests, but i would suggest doing the dailies once in a while too. its an interesting zone to explore that actually feels dangerous unlike most of wow.

I saw a blue post this morning saying those that aren’t in the maw daily are falling behind for things to come.

Mainly buffs for Torghast, but looking at todays patch notes it’s clear Torghast is sliding towards being the most aggravating slog of unfun gameplay that WoW has ever experienced so you’ll probably end up ignoring that too sooner or later.

The Maw Vendor has a rep locked Jewelcrafting recipe that will allow a Jewelcrafter to add gem sockets to any piece of SL gear that doesn’t already have one. As a main with JC, that’s like a must to get for me, specially since there are gems we make that say “Provide X bonus based on how many gems you have socketed.”
Yea that’s kind of why I brought it up. I saw this also and was like well poop, what am I missing? I hope they don’t force it on us with critical things needed from it.
With what they posted today, I would just assume that it’ll be as required as visions were. It is an assumption though, so…yea.
I’m guessing as more maw opens up there will also be cosmetics/mounts as usual. Maybe end game late life expansion gear similar to argus.
When I read the notes of the interview from yesterday. I get the vibes that things in the maw are going to become far less optional in the future.
Would not surprise me if they put a bunch of mandatory stuff in the maw in the near future. They heard too many players are skipping their optional content, now they gonna make ya do it.

I go to do my covenant required parts. While there I try and do the quests that are completable and leave when it gets too annoying from the eye stuff.
I would like it better if they would remove the “lose your stygia if you die” aspect of it. Having to run back to where you were and damage on your armor is enough punishment for me. I don’t find it unbearable or impossible but I do find it not fun and it is firmly in the “do it for the required part then avoid” category for me.
I have a love it /hate it reaction to this expansion. Outside of the Maw and Torghast I’m enjoying most things. I think I would like the Maw and Torghast better if they didn’t have the added punishments inside them. I’ve seen other players say that these are based on other popular games that I don’t play because they are gameplay I don’t want to play. Oh well.

The only thing that it currently gives you is the souls weekly. Which is a 5min process. And the reputation gives you your sockets at max rank. Personally I absolutely hate literally every single thing about the maw and will only exclusively do the souls weekly.
Otherwise it’s a tiny boost from the sockets.

Yea I fear this a lot. If they want to reward those that do it it’s fine by me just don’t overdo it so that those that don’t like it lose out substantially. OR make it more enjoyable and let me mount

Apparently I am ahead of the curve concerning the maw. I’ve had the beast warrens open for several days now. and am like 1000/21000. I plan to keep doing dailies in there on one character, my rep grind character. However, if they think I’m going back in there to progress to the beast warrens on more than 1 character? lol no way.
I’m very pro flying, but I am fine with some end game zones being like the timeless isle/the maw (if we could mount). But to just remove mounts entirely? Makes me wonder where does it end? Why not just force RP walking the entire time.

I do fear that they will make the Maw and Torghast so important that you can’t progress without them. I’m ok with progressing more slowly but honestly they can’t make me do content I don’t enjoy. If it becomes too annoying, I don’t have to play. There are other games out there.

Yea Argus was ground only. I was ok with that. But for me personally, no mount is just not enjoyable. Call me spoiled but that’s what happens when you take something away that we have had since forever.

I read that as falling behind future maw storyline.
