Yes. It’s coming to an end. The minute whoever takes the race to world first in the final raid of the Last Titan, the game will go black and no one will be able to log in. Then they’ll launch a trailer for WoW2 Electric Boogaloo launching in 2034.
JFC, a character could say something to the effect of liking pie, and the forums will take that to mean that a patch is coming involving picking apples.
Hey, if blizzard is going to sum up everything thats happened in wow over the last 20 years, and then call the saga the final battle, its natural to question what that means for the game.
If you want to conclude it means nothing at all, fine, you do you.
But dont be rude to those of us who are left unsure.
I know everyone that plays this is wildly different ages, but I’d be more hyped to know that we are into the final 3 expansions for the game. I’m now in my 30s and being able to see the end of wow (not just because it fell apart, but because it ended on a strong note), seems good to me.
The game has been going on for so long now, that a solid end would be impactful.
At blizzcon they did make it sound like there will be some big changes coming to the wow franchise to keep it going for another 20 years.
And now theyve called this the final battle.
I in no way think the franchise will retire or we will be left with no game to play at all.
But what that game will be, i really dont know at this point.
I think wow2 would make sense. Whatever they might call it. I don’t know if it would happen after this trilogy or maybe later, but I do think they would at least consider the idea.
I also think that it is hard to guess what companies will do. I think wow2 makes sense, I am not at all convinced that is what will happen.
Do you honestly believe there is a chance they will shut down WoW after this story line?
Now remember. There has never been a MMO shut down because story line ended. It was always because people stopped playing.
Also remember. MMOs do not need a large population to continue creating new content for.
I am showing, with history and facts, that there is no reason to believe WoW will be shut down. Why would they shut down WoW when it makes money? Even if this specific story line is over.
Your entire argument is based on speculation and ignoring history and facts.
So if your point is “If I ignore every bit of evidence, and twist words to fit a narrative I want, I just dont know!!”
I mean. Ok. You are free to do that. But realize very few will take you seriously.
I think it would go on for a while, but if their intention is to release a successor, I could see them just leaving wow, perhaps in a state of re-releasing previous expansions from the original. This is all guesswork obviously.
For a wow 2? Maybe.
Or do a complete revamp of the world for a complete blank slate.
The game does have to end eventually and plenty of mmos have shut down before.
Hey, im just not nieve enough to think the games continuing as normal after the world soul saga after everything theyve said about the future of warcraft.
Yet why do you feel everyone would move on to the successor? Thats a huge gamble. Has a successor MMO ever worked out like that under those perimeters?
And I am not naive enough to think that a bad guy saying “final battle” means WoW will shut down. I am not naive enough to think a WoW 2 makes financial sense.
Theyve said they want to keep the warcraft franchise going for the next 20 years.
Another 20 years of wow and it will be a 40 year old game.
It makes sense to build new foundations if they want to keep going for 20 more years.
I am honestly not sure. You could maybemaaaaaaaybe argue FFXIV doing their rerelease counts. But its a stretch. I suppose WoW 2 could work if they market it right and give Veteran players a reason to come back.
Heck they could easily do a re-origination to explain why the new game exists. Or really anything at all.
At this point though than nobody knows. Since there was some suggestion about the “final battle” I’m willing to entertain the idea that this may be the future.
I get that some people will say “it’ll never happen”, but we also saw people say that about other things like classic wow. It’s fine to think it will never happen, I don’t see anything wrong with considering a what if-should it actually happen. It’s always better to be prepared for any eventuality and not to become too attached to what ‘has’ to happen.
