Been mulling this over for when AQ launches and all our Mages switch to Fire but need some confirmation on a hunch. If the Mage starting Ignites has an item like Staff of the Qiraji Prophets or other sources of reduced resistance active when Ignite procs, does Ignite snapshot at that point with reduced resistance and last until Ignite falls off?
The way that Ignite works is actually 5 separate instances of ignite rolled into 1 debuff with all the damage and threat assigned to the person that first applied ignite. As long as a crit is applied the first 5 ignite procs refresh (“rolling the ignite”) along with any snapshotted stats at the time it was originally applied
Lets say that 5 Mages all pop Toep and open a fight with pyroblast and each of them crit for 4k (not a realistic number but it makes numbers even). This would apply 5 ignites each dealing 1600 damage each or 4k damage a tick altogether. It should keep ticking for 4k as long as the ignite buff is maintained with any crit from a fire mage, even after Toep falls off. So if your plan is to stack spell pen to snapshot a big ignite tick and then keep it rolling it should work although I doubt that it would be particularly worth it and you would have to get all your mages on board because it would only apply to your own instance.
Buff of that stave is on you, not on mob. It doesn’t fall off.
It doesn’t snap ignite asaik, it just makes you hit better.
the resistance debuff is useless. blizzard patched out negative resistance at some point before 1.12. the debuff is bad because 1. it does nothing as long as you have curse of shadows/elements on the boss and 2. it takes up a debuff slot.
Not sure if its useless, theres a boss in aq that has amplified damage taken, if you snap shotted an ignite on him and he rolls fire weak instead of like say arcane weak (its rng) you could ignite him for like well over 10k a tick
Which one is it?
EDIT: From what I’ve read, Sakai is correct. The staff gives you a buff, not a debuff on the mob.
