Support for older macs really is on borrowed time. Even now the current state of beta is “constant freezing and crashing” on an intel or AMD graphics mac. I wouldn’t say this is only a blizzard issue but more of an apple one in general with abandoning software/driver support on these macs. As game evolves with new features, it works worse on worse on abandoned drivers.
Games running great on apple silicon in my testing, but yeah the non apple silicon make experience is just not there anymore. Unless you plan to have a new mac in next 2-3 months, I suggest taking your leave for war within. :\
Hard to say. friend on intel/amd mac still crashes a lot, but supposedly that was fixed internally TODAY so will need to see how it plays for them when that fix makes it to public beta
I think certain intel macs will be safe to run War Within. especially if they have an AMD GPU and it runs Metal 3.
I’ve been playing beta with a 2019 imac. the app was crashing in previous patches but it seems better now.
It was not wrong at time of posting, and it wasn’t clear it’d be stable by prepatch (which is honestly like 2 weeks away). Mooni here is lucky she’s at least on AMD with metal 3 support. I have a strong feeling a lot of older macs that barely play live correctly now def will struggle with TWW.
I haven’t been able to play on my mac since ‘the war within’ started.
My mac works great for doing design work and everything else I use it for and WOW played beautifully until the new exp started.
I just got off a one month pause and will start a six month pause shortly.
I’m grateful I didn’t buy the new exp.
I will add I agree that Intel + AMD is on borrowed time. I’m on a 2019 Mac Pro with 16 cores, 384 GB RAM, and a 6900 XT and this is the first time I can’t get 60 fps at maxed out settings. Such is how technology progresses. Now, bootcamp is still an option and I’ve debated going with that and a 4090 and seeing what happens, but at this point it’s probably not worth the hassle.
