If you're a mage, what do you do against DH, Marks Hunters, and Enh Shaman?

I’m 2054 trying to ding 2100, but can never get there because my luck is that I always get a dh, hunter, enh type one-shot-the-mage lobby.

Help me understand what you do when DH eye beams you for a one-shot in 1 second, hunter one-shots and enh one shots?

Do you save ice block JUST for when they press their one-shot-mage buttons? But ice-block is 5 min CD, vs beam got to be like 45 seconds ?

More importantly, after you spent your ice block, then what? roll nelf to shadowmeld it?

Genuinely just looking to survive for more than 1 second against those classes. Any survival skill tips appreciated.

Ice block :ice_cube:

ice block cd is 5 minutes long. they’re one shot cd’s are 30sec

Didn’t know DHs one shot in 1 second. Good mages usually knock me away once my eye beam is finished casting so I waste my 6 seconds of meta. Don’t blink till after you get stunned, if you blink before hand you’ll just get caught in a stun. Nova DHs also, roots are the biggest counter to DH, we have reverse magic and only a bad DH will use it on themselves on a root.

does the knock back interrupt your beam?

It doesn’t, but if you blink away after the knock back, they’ll waste their metamorphosis while they have to waddle back to you.

No, but you make them waste uptime on their Meta. Whenever a DH eye beams they have meta for 6 seconds where they do increased damage. You knock them off a map or away you waste time on their up meta.

Again, 2 buttons have to be pressed to attempt to counter eye-beam, and there is 2 Global Cool Downtime that I have to wait out upon which I will already be dead. Not my opinion - just an observation. The same skill-level DH deletes same skill-level mage with eye-beam always. It takes an extraordinary healer to counter.

And an eye beam is not what one shots you. It’s the fat blade dance/death sweep after when they are in meta + chaos/anihhilation strikes. If you knock them away you save time. You asked for advice we give it to you.

No, its the eye beam trust me I have +1500 games this szn, I breezed through 1700 to 2068 rating, to go down 300 points to multiple DH lobbies. I think mages should be squishy but I think that tuning has left them into easy one-shots in certain scenarios with 0 realistic counters. I play DH, and hunter, and I am not even joking I afk kill mages

Mages are complicated to play correctly. They are very squishy. You have to make counter moves to your opponents. You can’t just stand around and free cast.

from frost pov (~2500 atm):

I treat all melee kinda the same, dance around kiting them thru ring of fire/orb/blizzard spam. Try to get a clean shifting semi-early to reset alter/shimmer/ring/orb/blastwave. I try to cancel charges/dashes with ice nova, it can really screw them over sometimes.

I usually save veins until after they blow their initial load and then start teeing off. I personally despise playing normal blink because I like to go for aggressive plays. I’ll only play it if there’s a good rogue I have to respect

For eye-beam I usually just db it, knock it, blink it. They can hurt but I can’t remember the last time I got 1 shot by a dh. Dh’s are particularly prone to chasing behind pillars where u can db sheep or even just nova them if you have to

A well timed wall (greater invis) can save you a block. You can also do something like barrier → mass barrier-> coldsnap barrier → shifting barrier as needed, which is ~400k+ absorb and can also save you a block. Don’t forget about mirror images either (20% wall)

90% of them want to tunnel u start to finish, so I hit whatever I can without leaving pillar (this will annoy ur healer if they don’t understand). I try alter their initial trueshot pop and invis/db to cancel rapid fires/aimed shots (meld too if youre nelf).

You kind of have to wait for your teammates to create windows for you to push out and play aggro. Sometimes someone will overcommit on you and you can punish. I get a fair amount of kills baiting people into snowdrift → ray behind pillar.

Overall it’s a lot of buttons, but u def have tools to live. I will say mm can be particularly obnoxious though. Some lobbies will be tough and u can’t win em all

if you’re not willing to have a discussion, or be open minded, then why phrase your topic as a question?

If you look, they have 4 different iterations of the same complaint, in different threads.

On two different characters.

It’s about complaining, not about getting better.

You’ve got plenty of counterplay you’re just bad and don’t know how to trade cds properly.

Killing bad players isn’t a good justification for anything.

Wouldn’t go that far.

It’s so he can justify his victim complex in the mage discord while they all circle jerk about the class being F---- tier garbage.

Yes, sorry. I’ll try to not be facetious from now on.
