If you were planning a new character on Cataclysm Classic

… for raiding and dungeons what DPS class and spec would you choose considering that you will probably want to be in a guild

Type and look up : ‘Cata classic wow dps list’’ and there’s an icy veins guide/list that shows all of them in order of s tier through B tier.

I have all classes over 80, and my rogue and hunter is 85 so far, and I prefer my hunter. It does the most damage as it’s S tier atm, and it’s just a fun class and now you don’t have to manage mana anymore either, it’s just more fun than it used to be.

Rogue no matter what spec is kinda garbo for pve and I just don’t enjoy it. Lock is sorta fun but I don’t like that the best spec is demonology. It seems like with cata they took all the least popular specs and made them the best for pve in an effort to change things up, but I don’t like that because the best specs during wotlk were also the most fun ones. Like beast master is cool, but it’s B tier dps now and I hate that.

Boomkin is cool as hell too but even with the buffs it’s still trash dps, and enhance was always my favorite but it’s trash too now, the list goes on.

Any, as long as I was able to commit to a consistent raiding schedule. However, having said that, if I was looking to play a spec/class that would have some sort of edge, such as being a high-performing DPS class, or having an off-spec that may be desirable in some situations, I’d probably go either DK, or Shaman.

Having said that, what I do play is Druid and Hunter.

First of all, thank you both for taking the time out of your day to reply to my question. It is very kind.

Second, I have been playing a rogue and got him to 36 but I am constantly fighting Energy and Combat Points.

Since you both play Hunters and seem to enjoy them I am going to try that next. Hopefully that will work out.

I just came from playing Hardcore and got my Rogue to 60, but the mindset is different on those servers. Its kill greens till they turn gray.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions and hopefully the Hunter will answer the call.

Don’t give up on your rogue if you like him/her.
Below 85 (well below 60) may not be optimal or may play with some struggles since talents/spells are not yet fully realized.
Stick with it or ask other 85 rogue’s if they like theirs at 85.

So I started a Hunter and can tell already that my time in game is so much more enjoyable. I am having fun again. He is only 5 but not having to worry about combat points and energy or how hard I am being hit is so relaxing.

@Radalpho:

Thanks for the good word brother. I am going to stay with the Hunter for now, but your insight is well appreciated.

I honestly wanna play Enhancement, but it’s so low on the dps tier list compared to elemental that shammy isn’t worth playing imo. And before people come in here and say “just play what you enjoy” which i hear waay too much of mind you, low dps spec enjoyment doesn’t get you into raids.

My mains enh and its the funnest spec in cata to me, had to swap toons tho to play in a 10man. 1 enh in a 25man is ok but you get buffs elsewhere and the bads still progging will just bring another dk or hunter lol. Youll get 99 parses, be at the bottom of your groups dps meter while theit all 30 parsing lol.

Also gets ya kicked or called out too, even if you’re beating the rogue in the group. But because they know you can top the charts as a meta spec they don’t like you rolling another spec. Some classes like rogue they give a pass to because all 3 of it’s specs are sub-par compared to like a mage or hunter.

People are literally insane. All 3 warlock specs for example are almost on par with each other dps wise, but don’t you dare play anything but demo or your griefing.
