Imagine how much worse it would have been if Blizzard had caved to the forum trolls and disabled layering…
There’s a ton of people checking out classic on launch day for kicks and laughs. A lot of them are going to drop off within the next few days. If Blizzard caves right now and creates a bunch of servers, we’re going to wind up with a whole bunch of ghost towns in the future.
We’ve waited years to play WoW classic. So what if we need to wait a few more days for launch issues to get ironed out. Blizzard knows what they are doing. Give them some time to sort things out, instead of swinging wildly from one overreaction to the next.

They said they would remove layering prior to phase 2, so I think it was a good call. It would have been a horrible experience last night if it wasn’t there.

I had to wait about 30 mins to login. Didn’t bother me one bit. Seemed like blizzard really did a good job with the launch. No random crashes or anything. At least not on myzrael. People are going to gripe and exaggerate every little thing. Especially a good portion of these people screaming for #nochanges. Most of them are acting like a bunch of 12 year old girls who and their barbies taken away at the slightest complications.

Waited 0 minutes in a queue right at 3pm on Whitemane. Course I was already on the character select screen an hour prior, but still.
At least didn’t get dc’ed and was able to play for around 6-7 hours before I had to go to bed for the kiddos in the morning.

I had a few issues with layering/instancing in Undercity at the very start. I ran there ASAP to experience it when completely empty. It was no surprise that it was a little wonky 15 minutes into launch and was about the only hiccup I encountered. A few friends had modest queues or had issues with “world server down” for the first 45 minutes or so, but it was clear Blizz had their act together and got things fixed quickly. I’m impressed with the way things have gone. I’ve seen muuuuuuch worse.
Compared to the WOD launch this was a success.

Hell, compared to 1.12’s original launch this was a success.

meanwhile I have friends that waited 6-7 hours to log in
but as long as you got in in 30 minutes, thank god. clearly, a successful launch!

I waited longer than that to get into WOD and when you got in you couldn’t even play because of the Garrison. Plus constant DC
Have you never even played during past launches ? This was the best of them all.
Most recent example is BFA launch, was pretty smooth no? I mean yeah we got no lag, but if it takes 5-6 hours to get into more than half the realms, that’s not ideal.

i bought wotlk, cata, and bfa on release and didn’t have a wait time. I fully expected to but surprisingly didn’t. I was playing medium pop servers at the time. in bfa I was playing a high pop server (emerald dream) and had no wait times.
They did add like 8 new servers
bought bfa on launch and no issues as well

That’s their fault for not heeding Blizzard’s advice and moving to a newer less populated server. Took me also about 30 minutes. And I got home right in the middle of the mass of people trying to log on and complaining all over the forums.
you realize you logging in does not negate the thousands of people who waited hours to get in though, right? somehow you are blaming the players than the multi million dollar company who was responsible to have a launch run smooth for a 15 year old game
And that they did. D3 took days to be able to log in. Other launches have been significantly worse.
Their plan was always to start small and expand, they warned everyone with a significant amount of time to switch servers due to the overpopulation, and then opened 8 new servers on launch day.
While you may disagree, the launch overall was pretty smooth.
As for your friends, again, Blizz warned everyone to move off of the very highly populated servers to avoid extended queue times. We all have gotten disconnected as well from the server side, and myself and people I know got right back in without queue.
Smooth as butter.

The problem was that this was not a populated server initially. Suddenly, it became one. Not sure why.
But I don’t understand why you think that taking 3 days to log into a game is acceptable? That is atrocious. Classic launch was far better than that, of course. I feel like the introduction of LITERALLY ANYTHING could be compared to that and be considered a “smooth launch.”
Being on a low pop server and having no disconnects should not devalue people who pay for their subs the same and are still met with 20k queue timers on “medium pop” servers. I put that in parenthesis because that was what they were initially until release when they suddenly spiked up.
If they hadn’t had the layering, it would have been an absolute nightmare.
As far as I am concerned, they did a decent job with it. Considering how hard the servers were hammered.
I had friends wait 6 hours, play for about 2 hours, only to get disconnected and met with another queue time of 4 hours. That is not smooth. That is awful.
I do not think I will ever Erase the horror that was WoD launch the only mmo game launch to even come close was FFXIV SB.
