If you really want account-wide it needs to include professions

Blizz seems to want the warbands biz to make it so players don’t lose anything by playing other alts, changing mains, that sort of thing, which is great. But what happens to professions if you change characters? What happens to those rare recipes you collected over the years? When you make an alt their professions start at zero. That’s still a big wall when it comes to switching mains.

First of all, all recipes you’ve unlocked on your account should be available to new alts from the profession trainer. Doesn’t matter if it’s a rare drop or hard to get or whatever, if you’ve leaned it on a character on your account the profession trainer should offer it to your new alt. Maybe free, maybe for a gold price, I dunno. But we shouldn’t have to regring profession recipes we’ve already unlocked before.

A new alt should have as much progression in professions as you the player have ever reached with the profession (maybe excluding whatever the current expansion is). Like if you have maxed out herbing in every expansion level through DF and you make a new herbalist in TWW they should also have maxed out every level herbing through DF.

I don’t know what to do about crafting knowledge. It’s a stupid system. I do know we shouldn’t have to be leveling the professions of every single alt every week or else we fall behind with no way to catch up. Maybe some amount of crafting knowledge would be shared with alts of the same profession. Like maybe half? For every ten knowledge you gain in, I dunno, engineering, your other engineer alts get five.

As for crafting level in current content, not sure if that should translate one to one on alts or not. I do think new alts should have access to any current recipes you’ve learned when they reach the right level. Again, I dunno, maybe alts of the same profession should get half a point for each point of profession level for current content. Like if you have a blacksmith with level 60 TWW blacksmithing and you make a new blacksmith alt they would start at 30 TWW blacksmithing? I dunno.

Maybe there should be no sharing of profession progress among alts in current expansion content. But there definitely should be complete sharing of everything before whatever the current content is.

I can understand my characters sharing resources like a team, and through introductions and other relationships, reputation. It doesn’t make sense that because one trained as a Blacksmith that they suddenly all know it. The idea of having alts sharing patterns and recipes does make sense though. Also, faster profession levelling for alts who already have a max level “mentor”.

So what happens if some of our alts have different gathering/crafting professions? What would be the workaround of that?

So don’t delete alts that have rare crafts? Warband the mats to the alt, mail it to your other alt who needs it.

Why do you need two TWW blacksmiths ? This would make sense if there was specializations like they did for Blacksmithing back during the old days.

Cross faction races isn’t a problem anymore as I just recently mailed an alliance only cooking recipe you earn at azuremyst isle, to a horde character

I don’t get this complaint.

i mean why not allow access to other characters professions without having to log between a ton of characters?
the spaghetti code is probly the only thing keeping this from reality tho

Not the intent of warband stuff. They said it’s so players won’t lose stuff with switching characters. If we have to keep random alts around because they have some rare recipe then it’s kind of a failure.

Would be based on the highest you’ve achieved in each profession. If you’ve never done any skinning on your account of course a new skinner would start at zero. If you’ve been really into alchemy over the years and got everything maxed and have lots of rare recipes a new alchemist alt would have all of that up to the expansion before whatever is current.

Let me ask you this then

Why would you delete an alt that have the rare RNG ancient crafts you get from farming old scholomance?

Why would you delete an alt that would have happened to have dirge’s kicking chompers or whatever it’s called for cooking?

You don’t have gold cap to even acquire that old cooking recipe from the AH so that’s not an answer

I want to be able to least gather on all my toons.

Because of a lack of character slots? Because someone wants to start over on a new alt with the same name? Because someone wants to race change or faction swap without paying extra for it? Plenty of reasons to want to delete an alt.

I like the idea of sharing recipes that they’ve learned so you don’t have to relearn them, but I feel like, if you create a new character, you should still have to level it.

You mean like having your alts craft you something? I do that all the time already!

You didn’t answer my question.

Why delete an alt that you have progressed so much on because you just decided “I don’t like this character anymore lol”

You seriously gonna tell me if you happen to have an alt that was able to summon old bosses via braizer or invocation, you’re deleting it just cause?

This braizer let’s you summon old bosses from certain vanilla dungeons for rare drops. You can’t get this anymore.

Why would you delete an alt that has this?

Pick 13 alts for dedicated collections. One for each class, What are you doing with the other 46 characters?

Don’t think I’ve ever deleted an alt I actually played. That would be like deleting an old friend. :frowning:

Ok, but have you heard about that bonus exp they’re adding in TWW? Each maxed character (up to five, is it?) adds a bonus to exp gain for other alts. Why couldn’t something like this work for professions? Max out engineering and future engineers level the profession at a faster rate.

I know. It sucks. But sometimes you just have to when you’re at character cap. Like, I’ll have to free up a slot for Remix somehow now that they apparently chickened out and backtracked on giving us more slots.

I did not know that  I see what you’re saying, though.

What about a profession boost up until the highest character you have? So like, if you have the profession maxed, you keep the boost until you hit max.

But if you only have it, say, level 20 then you only get the boost until 20 and then it goes back to normal.

On the one hand I feel like this is a decent example of “give them an inch and they will take a mile.”

On the other, mastering a profession at cap is now almost as much of a task/barrier as actually leveling the alt in the first place, so…I don’t know. I’m conflicted.

I would be appreciative of this if they just offered it for fishing alone. The hours, upon hours, upon hours of fishing that I have spent to unlock this and that on various characters would free up time from leveling fishing on my current favorite alt, allowing me to be able to do other content.

I kinda like having different professions on my alts.

Yeah sharing professions across all toons feels odd – However the idea of sharing recipes and patterns across all toons who are the same profession? … Now that’s something I can get behind.
