If you quit WoW over the lawsuit…

Let’s be real here. If you are quitting WoW because of the horrible things that are coming to light within the company. Then you might as well stop wearing clothes, using electronics and all sorts of other things that big companies have their hand in. Are these allegations horrible? Yes 100%.

You would be kidding yourself though if you think the clothes you are probably wearing right now or the phone you are reading this on we’re not made by some child in another country who is being forced into labor. Which is actually happening not just allegedly happening.

None of it is ok. Hold the people accountable. Not the whole company. I’m pretty sure they’re a lot of men and women who are still working at blizzard that are good and honest people.

But if you quit wow because of these allegations, really should stop and think about everything else you should probably stop or quit because of what else happens at other companies 10x as bad.

Jokes on you. I’m reading this (and responding) from my desktop. Haha no guilt trip for me!

But yes I was making similar points yesterday. For anyone that this kind of thing is news for…I don’t know whether to be sorry for you or happy for you that your life can be so bliss and worry free. Even if we take the more extreme examples of 3rd world countries and women who LITERALLY get sexually assaulted (don’t know if the more accurate word is allowed) in public and/or have to watch their child daughters get it or watch them get their throats slit…it isn’t like this kind of nonsense is new or fresh still.

Do you honestly think women in professional and non professional lines of work have it hugely different and better? You honestly think this same kind of crap doesn’t happen in business, finance, legal, and other spaces where MBA type of men prolific? Were you completely lost and unaware of a recent dead ultra rich guy who has a private island where many household name famous people are documented to go where literal underage girls are given out as party favors?

The world absolutely sucks for women everywhere and you had to have intentionally avoided any kind of news to have missed all of it.

Yes I absolutely hope California goes as hard as they can and makes the most vicious examples out of all the guilty parties (and even goes back to look into and try past leaders/executives who almost certainly knew and either did nothing or didnt do enough given the power they held)…but I’m not holding my breathe on it.

Boycotting is one of the few tools people have to enact change, people by all means should boycott products or services if they stand against their principles.

I don’t agree with shaming or pressuring others into a boycott, but if someone wants to boycott a service all the power to them.

Unless you buy things that are either locally made or second hand and don’t supply the funds to these companies… it’s really not hard to get around these issues.

Well even though we can’t quit and boycott every single thing we can still quit stuff once allegations come to light.

Anyway that isn’t me though. If you’re quitting please send me your gold.

Wow this is like the 100th time I’ve seen this terrible strawman from someone who doesn’t understand the difference between essentials and inessentials

Yes, there are still good and honest ppl with activ/blizz. I’m waiting to see what happens.

No doubt, the company needs to be purged of the baddies.

Every company has the potential of this. Blizz has been in such a dumpster fire the last couple years. This is just… I don’t have words.

There is so much wrong with a lot of other “things” around the world. I guess ppl are too “busy” on their smart phones these days or something. Complacent and lazy is what I see often. Seems like ppl with decent, common sense are lacking with a lot of companies.

Personally I don’t give up things I love because some people in a company did horrible things.

From a lot of the personal reports I’ve read most of the company is normal, decent people, but then you get people like Alex who screw everything up. People like him need help, no sane adult man should ever act like that, there’s alcohol addiction there and obviously some sort of mental issues.

It’s also on people like JAB for not recognizing the issue, and that this person probably needs help with their issues and instead providing “vocal counseling” when they are not trained at all to deal with these type of issues.

Its 2021! No one actually quits or boycotts anything. Everyone just has an outrage on social media/forums to let everyone know how holier than thou, virtuous and humble they are.

heyyy… what if you talk about your faults too? growls

No one alive is holier than thou and you’d be a fool to believe otherwise… posting it or ppl believing it.

Except he’s right

Based on General Discussions logic, if you’re truly wanting to boycott, you should turn off your PC and never use the internet again because Bill Gates also have similar situation with Microsoft like Blizzard

TLDR:
“You can’t protest immorality and oppression because there’s more immorality and oppression elsewhere, which makes this okay clearly.”

It isn’t purely a strawman. I would wager you could list a product and someone (not necassarily me) can find and/or otherwise point you to the direction for viable alternatives products that are more socially conscientious to buy.

It doesn’t address the problem though that it isn’t going to change the fact that the products are still going to get made and sold whether you buy it or not and all you are really accomplishing is going way out of your way to find alternative products and not actually affecting the lives of these victims.

Actually getting your hands dirty and you yourself rescuing them or putting a stop to the litany of bad things is what is needed.

And it’s ironic they are posting on their expensive smartphones/using PCs

I posting on my internet rock, don’t know about you.

The difference between a video game and all those things you’ve listed is that I have to use all those things you listed.

I can’t run around naked. My electronics are required for my work.

Try harder, next time.

“locally made” only denotes assembly.
do you really track down where all the parts come from before making a purchase?

who picked the cotton in your shirt?
who made the diodes, and mined the gold in your electronics?
how many people died in the construction of your electrical grid?
… or making the roads you drive on? or on oil rigs?

i feel like people don’t understand the processes which let them live their modern lives.

you could go live with a remote Amazonian tribe.
you choose not to, because you enjoy the luxuries of modern life
(and there’s no shame in that, because we can’t control everything… we can’t control where we’re born, or the families we’re born into, and we have little control over the type of life we’re “expected” to live)

well you could. but probably just the one time
